Loved his game but wish he was better tackling, he may want to start by making one

He did actually make one.....  :shh

Love what he brings to the side. Pace and kicking is elite and is becoming stronger at defending as each week passes. Love him :thumbsup

Backed it up again today. Short has displaced Ellis from the side.

His kicking is elite, have always thought that

And he is one of the few in our side who can actually kick on either foot effectively

Was a bit stiff not to play more games last year but that's the beauty of being the best team in the league. See Bellis & Towner being the first premiership heroes to be told there would not be a spot for them barring injuries :shh

A great problem to have.

One of my favourites at the minute.

I like the backline better with him rather than Ellis for sure.

Shorty or poos his pants Ellis. There really is no comparison. Fmd one takes the game on runs lines uses the ball well and is not scared to take on a kick. The other well hes slowly being shown up for what he is.

I like both lads. One is a premiership player. Hopefully one will be a 2-time premiership player by the end of the season with the other playing in his first flag  :shh

Tiger spurred on by missing out last year

By Daniel Cherny

Richmond defender Jayden Short says he is spurred on by missing the Tigers’ premiership triumph last year and is “working his arse off” so not to miss out this year as the club chases back-to-back flags.

Short, 22, played 16 games last year but none after round 18 and was an emergency on grand final day as Richmond crushed Adelaide to deliver a first premiership in 37 years.

However the backman has played all six games so far in 2018 and is establishing himself as a reliable AFL player, even earning an AFL Coaches’ Association vote for his 20 disposals, and eight rebound-50s against Collingwood last Sunday.

Short said he was determined to keep his spot in the team.

“It does spur me on a little bit,” Short told Fairfax Media.

“But the other 22 got to play. I don’t want to miss out this year. I’m trying to work my arse off and stay in the team as long as I can and do the best I can for the team.”

He acknowledged that competition for spots was fierce at Punt Road, with premiership heroes Brandon Ellis and Jacob Townsend among those to lose their senior positions in recent weeks.

“I’m going all right. We’ve got a pretty healthy list,” Short said.

“There’s some blokes [in the VFL] who could be playing 100 per cent in this team. We need to perform each week and put your best foot forward to stay in the team. There’s definitely other blokes pushing for their spots as well.

“I think we’re always improving. Last year was just a stepping stone for us. We started what we wanted to start there and we’re trying to improve this year. Last year’s not the end of us. I think we’re getting better.

“It’s an awesome spot to be in for a club.”

Richmond’s outstanding forward pressure has been a key feature of their rise to the top, and Short was full of praise for his side’s array of small forwards.

“To be able to put that pressure on [opposition] backs, it gives us backs an opportunity as well. Their relentless pressure all day. Their care for each other is just amazing.”

Short is also earning a reputation as one of his side's most penetrating kicks. He says his talent was honed at home.

“Dad made me kick all the time. I was never a handballer.”
