Does being born without the ability to play at the level count as an injury?

Apparently it's over the foot/toe injury Kingy suffered from according to Barrett. Remember, Geelong's Matthew Egan, whose ankle/foot was completely stuffed due to stress fractures, sued the AFL and the doctors who treated him. So it's not a first.

Former Tiger Jake King seeking compensation over career-ending injury

FORMER Richmond player Jake King is locked in a legal battle with the AFL, seeking compensation for a career-ending injury.

King retired at the end of 2014 after eight seasons, failing to get over a toe injury he sustained early in that year.

He is claiming his foot was stomped on during the round three match against Western Bulldogs which ultimately proved to be his last AFL game.

It is also understood King's claims mention the round 10 match against West Coast in 2013 where he injured his foot, only to play the remainder of the season.

The matter is being run by the AFL Players' Association.

"I don't want to comment about the specifics of my situation but I would like to thank the AFLPA who have been outstanding in looking after players on these matters," King told Channel Nine.

The toe has been fused to his foot and has resulted in seven surgeries, the most recent on Wednesday.

He is seeking a six-figure compensation, and if successful, his payout will come from an AFL Insurance Policy.

The AFL has sought for its own medical department to undertake an independent assessment on King's injuries. For King's request to be honoured, he must convince the AFL the injury was not pre-existing.

Should King be compensated, it would open the door for fellow retirees to lodge their own applications.

"There is no coverage, there's nothing there to protect the players," Essendon captain Jobe Watson said.

"The health and medical wellbeing of players is something I think will move towards being of greater importance.

"You look at past players now and the injuries that everyone gets out of the game with, these are lifelong and there's 50 years of your life to live after you've finished playing.

"If you have a major back surgery with four years to remain, that becomes a problem for you, six or seven years down the track."

King is one of a few past players to make such a claim. It is believed Jason Snell, Jesse Smith and Bowen Lockwood have lodge similar requests in the past.

If his foot was stomped on why isn't he suing the player who stomped on his foot?

prob the same reason why Essendon players were getting ready to sue the AFL (not Essendon) if they were found guilty of the drugs saga

which is?

we have to sign a disclaimer each year that basically says we know footy is a contact sport and there is risk of serious injury or death and if that happens then stiff cheddar.

so how do these idiots get to sue when it happens?

Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."

Push Up: I Almost Lost My Toe

Jake King reveals he almost needed big toe amputated

MMM
April 27, 2015

Former Richmond tough nut Jake “Push Up” King has revealed on Triple M’s Rush Hour that he almost lost his big toe.

King has required a staggering total of nine different operations on his troublesome big toe and there was a distinct possibility at one stage that it needed to be amputated.

But, luckily, his surgeon fused the toe together and ultimately managed to save it.

Push Up also clarified that he wasn’t suing the AFL over the injury but that he was seeking compensation as part of the AFL Players’ Association’s bargaining agreement with the league that was due to be resolved in the not-too-distant future.

The ex-Tiger pointed out the anomaly that the receptionist at Richmond had WorkCover but none of the players did and this caused issues for some AFL players who required big operations later on in life well after they retired.

Kingy was on Ch 2 last night. He said he's had 9 ops since he's retired and the injury has prevented him from returning to his old trade and job as a plumber. He wants the AFL to put aside a fund to help retired footballers who have been left permanently injured as a result of playing AFL footy.

Fair enough to request compo.

Let's base it on how many games he would have played in a real team with a real coach, times the number of years he would have been on the list.

0 x 0 = 0.

Seems about right.
