Tom Browne said Dion is having a scan tomorrow on his hammy. He won't be playing next week.

Browneye is clueless - that’s a guess as no one talks to him

Broady said Dion is feeling good and had a run around today. Doesn't think anything was there and scans weren't needed. Hoping Dion gets up for this week.

Is he allowed to play via medical sub rule??
IIRC it's not a hard fast rule. As long as the medico "reasonably determines" during the game that it's a likely 12-day injury can the sub be used. However, if it later turns out it's not as serious as first thought then that player can play the following week. Only if it was concussion is it mandatory to not play for 12 days.

Star midfielder Dion Prestia was subbed out of last weekend’s Dreamtime win over Essendon with another soft tissue issue, but according to his coach is some chance of getting up for the Eagles clash.

However, with Prestia’s history of calf and hamstring injuries, the club will be taking a cautious approach especially with the bye next weekend.

“Yeah, there’s a chance,” Hardwick said of Prestia.

“He’ll do some running today and then we’ll have a better understanding on Friday.

“He had some tightness which is obviously a worry with Dion. He was coming back off a calf and an early hamstring.

“It’s one of those ones that’s touch and go. We’re pretty conservative with our injuries and he’s a very important player so we won’t push the envelope if there’s any doubt at all.”

No point risking Prestia for one game. Give him the week off which with the bye then allows his hammy no matter how minor a full three weeks between games to fully be right. Dion's too important to risk on one H/A match.

"the point" would be to help win this important game against a top 8 rival.

If they play him we know the subbing was a ruse
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

There would literally be no reason for this. If the game was still in the balance why would we sub out one of our best players if not for injury. From what I can remember the game was over by then so why wouldn’t they just leave him on the bench and play a rotation down for 2 minutes instead of risking it?

He’s the guy you’d rest late in a game.  Don’t ask me why but it feels like they’ve chosen to play Maurice Jnr’s nephew to indulge him kicking a cheapie when the game was over
