You get the impression, once you hit him a few times, he'd submit

Q. COACHES are a bit grumpy again. Richmond coach Damien Hardwick probably exposed how brittle the Tigers’ mentality truly is with his spat with Kane Cornes.

Michaelangelo Rucci: ON THE MONEY

DAMIEN Hardwick seems to take any criticism of his Richmond team and Tigers players most personally. He surely was none too kind in the post-match reviews after that appalling first half against St Kilda. So why is he taking issue with how Kane Cornes assessed that poor start that has cost Richmond fourth spot — for now?

They say the dog ultimately reflects the master. Hardwick needs a shovel of cement to develop a tougher stomach for criticism. He might look across the road to see how Nathan Buckley is handling a crisis with some class.

Chris McDermott: ON THE MONEY

SPOT on. Rooch, we both might agree on this one.

I love Damien Hardwick. I did when he played and I still do now that he is coaching. But he has to practise what he preaches. I’m sure he tells his players, as most coaches do, not to read social media — more so now that it is a trigger to mental issues among players.

It is a tough gig for players and coaches, but it always has been. It is no different today than it was 25 years ago. You just need to ignore the criticism or accept that there is some truth to it.

Whatever, it is here today and gone tomorrow ... unless you give it more currency. Get over it and move on. If Hardwick had ignored Kane’s remarks, we wouldn’t be talking about it today.
