This bloke is a great kick. Good hands too.

Not saying he is Dusty potential but I would consider resting him in the forward line. Or see how he goes as a mid-fwd who rotates mid.

Sensational game. So good to see the youth given the chance to play from the middle. Was this the first time this year we won the centre clearances?

RCD averaged 14.7 disposals, 6.3 contested possessions, 3.3 clearances, 2.1 centre clearances, 3.6 tackles and 209.7 metres gained per match.

Among the competition’s rising star contenders, Collier-Dawkins was ranked No. 1 for centre clearances per game and No. 3 for total clearances per game.

And he capped off the promising start to his AFL career by winning Richmond’s Cosgrove-Jenkins best first year player award.

The Tigers’ national recruiting manager Matthew Clarke believes there is a huge upside to Collier-Dawkins.

“I think we always thought that it would take a little bit longer with Riley, just given his training history, as well as the programs and the understanding of footy in elite pathways,” Clarke said on the AFL.com.au ‘Road to the Draft’ podcast.

“When he got his chance this year, he played a couple of ripping games . . .

“Against the Giants at Marvel (Stadium) he kicked a couple of goals and really kept us in the game early.

“He’s scratching the surface . . . He’s starting to work out how big and physical he could be.

“A good sign is when he’d go back from AFL level to some VFL footy and he’d look dominant at times.

“It looks like he really belongs there (at AFL level), rather than being that bit-part midfielder . . .

“I think the sky’s the limit for Riley.”

RICHMOND

Riley Collier-Dawkins

Trent Cotchin‘s decision to stand down as captain won’t impact his immediate playing role, but it’s yet another reminder the fulcrum of the Tigers’ premiership-winning midfield is closer to the end than he is the start. Riley Collier-Dawkins was one of the names who emerged in 2021 and finally got some senior game time. A couple of others in Mabior Chol and Callum Coleman-Jones have now left the club - ’RCD’ is now the man of the future for Richmond. He is someone who‘ll need to step into the void left by Cotchin when the premiership skipper eventually retires. No one is expecting him to have the impact Cotchin has had, but he is primed to launch into the senior side and become an impressive midfielder in his own right. We could see him take considerable steps towards that in 2022.

Good signs today from RCD. His endurance seems to have really improved. He was leading or at least amongst the leaders in the shuttle runs today. Apparently, the Club sees him as a mid in the Cotch role.

Riley needs opportunity. He'll be ok. Hopefully the supporters give him a chance. We cant afford to burn our 1st round draft selections.

It was only the first day of preseason training and there wasn't a trial match but still based on what RCD showed today it was very promising Ramps. I know the couple of fellow Tiger supporters I had a chat to while watching training were also excited by what they saw from Riley today.

We can't rely on Cotch and our other vets, as much as they have been champions, to carry the bulk of the workload in the guts. We need our younger mids to step up next year and spend more gametime in the midfield and become our main ballwinners. RCD with an improved fitness and endurance base looks like he may be one of them  :pray.

Pumping a young player up based on training is cliche at this time of the year but the one that looks to have made a quantum leap since coming back to preseason training is RCD. He's a big boy now but his running ability has improved as well. In one of the drills he had two opponents trying to bring him down while in another he did this side-step  :o to avoid another opponent in traffic. Seems to be Steve Morris' pet project too as he's doing extra work after main training with Riley. Expect to see him to play a Dusty-type role: ballwinning mid plus time in the forward line.
