Summary:

* Cotch will decide whether he goes beyond 2022 some time next year. Understands next year could be his last given his age. He's not someone who will set/announce a date. He'll see how he is feeling next year in terms of his body, mind, etc and judge from that whether to play on again in 2023.

* Right now he's motivated to have a strong preseason and hit next year in as best condition as he can be.

* Not playing finals and watching on does motivate you to get back into it for 2022.

* 7news said a succession plan on who will be the next captain after Cotch is being developed.

* Dusty is in good spirits and sees his injury as a blessing in disguise and he can look at life in a wholistic approach.

Spending his first September on the sidelines in five years is proving the perfect motivation for Richmond captain Trent Cotchin.

He's told 7NEWS he's likely to wait until next year before making a decision on whether to play on beyond 2022.

If the team around him are uninjured then he may be able to go another but if the injuries hit and he is asked to shoulder the load his body is going to break down like this year.  Lets hope the younger brigade become a middle tier and come to the fore.  The RCD's, Dows and CCJ's of the squad.
