I have to say I am a little shocked at how the majority on here are writing us off after 1 game.

3 flags in 4 years?

Maybe I'm being foolish but I am going to back our kids, coaches and club in

Even though some of the selections don't really make me feel confident I still think we are not far off. Agree with you.

Really?

Last year sucked, injuries or not.

We have injuries again to start this year.

Everyone a year older.

Kids either not getting games or banging the door down bar Gibcus.

Didn't appear to draft to our deficiencies.

I've been predicting a poor year for a long time and I think we will finish in the middle 6, which means a finals cameo at best or a decent draft pick.

Yeah I think it’s more about being realistic about where our core stars are at.

People forget that prior to Dusty’s injury he was already displaying poor form. His impact was minimal in a few games last year,  as were many others including our former captain.

Facts are we have been on a downhill slope for over a year now, and should we not make finals by next year will make it 3 in a row. I would be really worried if I were some should that occur, considering what hawks did to clarko. So unless we start seeing serious improvement in some of these kids and not just one then we are not going to see success for years to come.

List management and salary cap management is just so crucial, our 2017 was brilliant. Look at Blues with their recent ins, after embarassing times of drafting GWS rejects and Daisy Thomas.

I feel we haven't really impacted this since Lynch arrival. Absolutely acknowledge that we may be stuck here in that our cap is full and would no doubt have some back ended contracts that makes this really challenging currently, but it is what it is. Just hoping that we are planning to align the stats again to target an period where we can inject heavily around the same time our next gen of key players peak in their careers.

I've been predicting a poor year for a long time and I think we will finish in the middle 6, which means a finals cameo at best or a decent draft pick.

Agree with all that.

I just don't think we can win another flag with the group so im looking long term rather than chasing a rainbow.

Right atm we have 4 certain starters injured Prestia, Riewoldt, Lambert and Vlastuin. There's 4 spots that should go to kids.

Im not playing two ruckmen not if we play three tall fwds and i dont think our ruckmen offer enough out of the ruck role. So Soldo goes

Aarts and Castagna are not good enough they have been and continue to stop us looking at say Cumberland and this year Sonsie.

Im hoping they continue to get games into Gibcus and i would be playing Ben Miller. To allow this id roll Broady up to a wing.

Im giving Mansell a go in defence he can have Vlastuins spot for now. Im playing Stack or Brown across h/b.

Im keeping Ralphsmith either wing or high half forward.

We need to find inside players im playing RC-D, Dow and im playing Ross inside to find out if he can actually play the role well.

Based on performance last week id have no problem omitting Edwards, Graham Rioli, Soldo for structure, Castagna and Aarts.
As for Caddy unlike the coaches i dint have a problem Revisiting 2018 especially with jack out, and we just dont have a tall to play instead of Jack. Caddy for Jack.

Im trying to keep the following team or similar for as long as possible.Im also starting to look at phasing out a few of the veterans especially if we are not a flag chance.

Mansell - Tarrant - Grimes
Gibcus - Miller - Stack/Brown

McIntosh - RC-D - Broad
Nankervis - Martin - Bolton

Ralphsmith - Balta - Sonsie
Cumberland - Lynch - Caddy

Ross -Dow - Cotchin - Baker - Pickett.

That's a lot of changes claw which obviously we'd never do.

One thing for sure though is that if last year wasn't an aberationas we suspect, and thus we don't bounce back up to contention, we really need to use this year to sort the proverbial wheat from the chaff.

Guys like RCD, Miller, Ross, Martyn, Cumberland, Biggie, Stack, Ralph, Parker. You'd wanna know if you're keeping them that it's because they have shown genuine promise.

If we dont make finals this year I think Hardwick may quit and rake a break from footy.

Our recruiting team has also done a bad job the last 3 or so years. If the last crop doesnt produce at least 3 players then they should be looked at Kinnear Beatson is the best in the business. We should get him as National Recruiting Manager.

There seems to be a lot of injury mismanagement at the club.
