Delisted Geelong midfielder Quinton Narkle is reportedly set to secure a train and trial gig at Richmond across the course of the coming off-season.

Narkle was axed by the Cats just days after the club's premiership win over Sydney, with the Maddington product among five players cut by the Kardinia Park club.

The list call saw an end to the 24-year-old's time in Geelong, which spanned 41 games and five seasons.

Narkle's management has already revealed there has been some level of interest in the fringe midfielder since he departed Geelong, however Narkle was overlooked at this week's National and Rookie drafts after being among close to 900 nominees for the off-season intake.

According to The West Australian, Narkle is set to receive a training invite to join Richmond's AFL program for the coming months.

AFL clubs are able to invite players to join their pre-season plans ahead of and during the Supplemental Selection Period, which is set to run from January next through to March.

The Tigers flipped their midfield this year, with premiership stalwarts Kane Lambert and Shane Edwards announcing their retirement from the game, while the likes of Riley Collier-Dawkins and Will Martyn were not offered new deals.

Richmond acquired GWS pair Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper through the trade period in what was an aggressive double coup for the Tigers.

Narkle could add to the new-look midfield ensemble at Punt Road should he impress across the summer.

Do we have just the one spot left on our list plus a rookie B

"Narkle could add to the new-look midfield ensemble at Punt Road should he impress across the summer."

After six years at Geelong where he struggled to build up a tank (Geelong suporters bemoaning the fact that he was way behind the midfielders at training)

Exactly what has changed that will enable him to add to the new look midfield.

Tank not good enough.

No Left foot

Average right foot.

Stack offers way more than Narkle, while his tank is about the same Stack's kicking is near elite.

Stack may offer more on-field but he also breaks quarantine laws, breaks hub rules and spends the offseason partying.  Forget him he is a victim of his own crappy attitude

Have been told by listener MinSon (in talent scout circles) Narkle is about 70-80% to sign with us.

Is apparently doing all the right things and has had chats with senior players about this being a huge lifeline to take and he is grabbing it with both hands currently.

I would have thought a KPF would have been a more urgent recruitment need than another mid??

Not when we have one lined up as a trade target.

Investing our development resources into players at the club we think will play for us.

If we rookie a KPF put time into him then trade for a ready made player have we wasted time and resources ?

It's a tricky one!

I don't rate this at all, would rather the KPF we've got training with us

Definitely a strong argument to be made for Bradtke for sure!

Good luck to him. Has talent but he is not getting into that midfield. Does not work both ways.

I struggle to see how he fits as best 22 as well. Definitely not as a mid anyway.

Richmond has initially invited Narkle, Bradtke and Teal to train until Christmas but will sit down next week to make a decision on extending the invitation further before the Tigers' return for pre-season next month.

The club is likely to provide all three with a longer training stint in the new year ahead of the pre-season supplemental selection period deadline on February 15.

Narkle attracted interest in the weeks after being told his time was up, including from both West Coast and Fremantle, but has always been interested in remaining in Victoria.

The 25-year-old produced some eye-catching moments in the rain on Thursday and has made an impressive start to his trial at Punt Road Oval.

It is understood the West Australian has stripped nearly eight kilograms off his frame in the past month after following a calculated training program over the break to increase his chances of securing a second chance.

Reported on SEN that we had 2 time trials yesterday, second one was for the older group.

Narkle finished 3rd.

If he has improved his fitness base and endurance I wouldn't be surprised that we take him for the potential short term gain if it works.

The only plus in getting Narkle would be if he kicked the winning goal against Geelong, apart from that, pass for me
