Norwood oval is a small skinny ground - it’s going to be a congested game . I hope we pick a team accordingly.

Norwood oval 165 x 110
Kardinya park  170 x 115
Stadium Australia  160 - 118

Probably the two closest AFL grounds to Norwood.

Richmond v St Kilda Preview

Hugh Fitzpatrick
SEN
4 April 2024

Richmond and St Kilda will make history in the AFL being the first two Victorian teams to play for premiership points at Norwood Oval.

The Tigers head to Adelaide in form having knocked off what many considered the premiership favourites in the Sydney Swans in a terrific performance from an undermanned outfit.

But unfortunately for Adem Yze and the Tigers, that win came at a big loss with Tom Lynch (hamstring), Noah Balta (knee) and Liam Baker (suspended) all coming out of the side for this clash.

They'll likely welcome back Dustin Martin, Dylan Grimes and Jack Graham for this but Lynch, Balta and Baker will be so hard to replace.

As for the Saints, they dominated so much of the game against Essendon last week but still squandered four vital points.

Max King will return to the side this week which is crucial for their structure and he could certainly stretch Richmond's undersized defence.

St Kilda's biggest strength is their defence and with Richmond losing three of their attacking stars, they really should restrict the Tigers to under 10 goals.

Norwood Oval is a narrow ground which won't suit the Saints so you should expect to see a contested game and quite possibly a low scoring affair.

Tough game to tip but you can't side with Richmond with those outs.

Tip: St Kilda by 25 points.

Norwood oval is a small skinny ground - it’s going to be a congested game . I hope we pick a team accordingly.

We’ve been strong in contested footy this year post round zero. Won the contested pill in all 3 games against strong contested ball winning teams. Ground might suit us, would like a smaller forward line to keep that i50 tackle count from last weekend up
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Decimated Tigers ponder more forward time for Martin

By AAP
5 April 2024

RICHMOND will contemplate giving Dustin Martin longer stints up forward against St Kilda in an attempt to fill the gaping hole in attack left by injuries to Tom Lynch and Noah Balta.

Martin is due to return from a corked calf against the Saints and, given his explosiveness inside 50, coach Adem Yze will be tempted to play him, and potentially Shai Bolton, forward of the ball even more than usual.

"Obviously having Dustin back in the side's a great thing for our group and our team," Yze said on Friday.

"He'll still have a mixture of inside midfield time and forward, Shai's doing the same.

"So we're looking to balance our team later this afternoon, but to have him available is great for our group.

"Obviously two quality forwards and experienced forwards going out, his organisation in our front end's going to be really important for us and we can't wait to have him back out there."

Yze admitted Lynch's injury, which will sideline the big man for up to three months after he missed most of last year with a foot injury, had been particularly "gut-wrenching".

Norwood Oval's playing surface is close to 30m narrower than the MCG, and the Tigers marked out narrower wings on Punt Road at Friday's training in a bid to acclimatise.

"There might be more stoppages, so we've got to consider maybe a second ruck, things like that," Yze said.

The Tigers are unlikely to make any defensive tweaks, backing Ben Miller and Tylar Young to handle St Kilda spearhead Max King, who is returning from suspension.

Richmond have altered the dimensions of Punt Rd Oval in preparation for their game against St. Kilda at the thin Norwood Oval.

Dotted line is the new boundary.

THE CERTAINTIES FOR THE REST OF GATHER ROUND

Andrew Slevison
SEN
6 April 2024

Richmond verus St Kilda

Vlastuin to have 15+ disposals, 5+ marks, 3+ rebound 50s

Nick Vlastuin is in All-Australian form to start 2024.

The Richmond defender is averaging career bests with 22.2 disposals, 8 marks and 7.8 rebounds 50s across four games this season.

He has a pretty decent record against St Kilda in recent times, averaging 19.8 disposals, 6.5 marks and 3.8 rebounds 50s in his last six.

Given his hot form right now, we’re backing Vlastuin to again have an impact this time at Norwood Oval with at the very least 15 disposals, 5 marks and 5 rebound 50s.

Ross to have 20+ disposals, 3+ clearances

Seb Ross has put forward some strong recent performances for St Kilda.

Round 1 aside when he had 10 touches and was subbed off against Geelong, he’s been great the last two weeks.

He had 22 touches and 4 clearances against Collingwood in Round 2 before racking up 28 and 6 against Essendon last weekend.

In his last three against the Tigers he’s averaged 26 touches and 4.3 clearances so we’re with him to deliver again in this clash.

The 20-disposal mark should be bare minimum for Ross who should also contribute with at least 3 clearances.

We're training at Norwood Oval at the moment. Looks a decent Tiger crowd from the brief vision.

St Kilda coach Ross Lyon believes Yze's antics are over the top, refusing to go to the lengths the Tigers have to ready themselves for the slim ground.
