Here’s an excerpt from a newscorp article
“Smillie had completed a volume of running in the short off-season, but Richmond confirmed on Tuesday that he would need more surgery after scans revealed “little healing progress of his quad injury” despite it being classified as minor in nature.”

"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

How bizarre.

Haven’t all of his reported injuries today been listed as strains? I can’t remember anything mentioned about tears or tendon issues and you don’t get surgery over a strain.

Ok I just read the clubs statement.

Reads like it’s a bunch of accumulated / recurring strains to the muscle that aren’t fully healing and restricting him for full range of movement so they’ve just decided to call out and go in for surgery to hopefully put an end to it.

Agreed with that, just really disappointing it took this long to come to the conclusion where Lalor was done so quickly and is able to have a full pre season now.

What surgery is done for a strain though?

No bloody idea lol that’s why I initially thought it must be at least a partial tear.

Surgery would suggest the tendon is at least partially torn OFF the patella from my basic research

I'm seeing a colleague tomorrow who is an orthopaedic surgeon so I'll ask her if she has any idea.

But they're not the same injury

Lalor got surgery after ripping his hamstring tendon off the bone.

Smillie is a quad injury.. they obviously thought it would heal without intervention which I know I'm probably in the minority but I think is a good thing.
