Would much rather be Essendon in that herald sun mock draft

I'd be surprise if we don't pick at least centre-square playing mid with either pick 3 & 4. I don't see us going for another defender type. I know Vlastuin was taken at pick 9 in 2012, but we already had Cotch & Dusty plus Sheds, Ellis, Lids, etc as young mids on our list at the time. Floss was part of the second phase of our build back then where we were adding a second layer to an already existing quality young core group. Right now, we are still in the first phase building a new quality young core.

Vlas was also a top end mid at junior level wasn’t he? We just played him down back to get him into the side, he was just so good down there so it ended up being his perm position.

Yeah.

Keeping it simple and taking two of sharp. Robey. CDT. Duursma is appealing

The clubs that will SHAPE the draft | Gettable

https://youtu.be/QGqs0SBNUOg?t=125

Expects us to bid like crazy on Uwland, Patterson, Annable and perhaps even Dean.

Our picks 3-4 a choice out of Robey, Grlj, X.Taylor and Cumming.

Though Twomey added if Duff-Tytler gets through to Richmond it'll be a virtual lock.

Also Mentioned we may go for a third draftee at pick 38 rather than Kellaway.

Pretty disappointing not to see Sharp mentioned in those we are considering. Hopefully it’s just a case of us keeping our cards close to our chest.

2025 AFL Phantom Draft – Version 2.0

Tommy Wolfe
readingtheplay.wordpress.com
October 29, 2025

ROUND ONE:

Pick #1: West Coast – Willem Duursma
Pick #2: Gold Coast (bid matched with picks 15, 18 & 24, with pick 42 coming back) – Zeke Uwland
Pick #3: West Coast – Cooper Duff-Tytler
Pick #4: Gold Coast (bid matched with picks 26, 27, 34. 42 & 51, going into defecit for 2026) – Dylan Patterson

Pick #5: Richmond – Sullivan Robey
The Tigers bank on contested power with Robey – a late-season riser whose upside is enormous. Explosive through stoppage and dangerous forward of centre, he offers a rare blend of size and athleticism. Richmond will be hoping he can evolve into a midfield spearhead in the Fyfe mould.

Pick #6: Richmond – Xavier Taylor
Richmond’s backline has long had a mix of toughness and class, and Taylor brings both to ensure the next generation remains strong. A natural competitor with excellent size and balance, he plays with a presence that should lift the Tigers defensively and bring the kind of edge that helps forge premiership teams.

Pick #7: Brisbane (matched bid with picks 18 & 23, with pick 49 coming back) – Daniel Annable
Pick #8: Carlton (bid matched with picks 12 & 14, with pick 18 coming back) – Harry Dean
Pick #9: Essendon – Dyson Sharp
Pick #10: Essendon – Samuel Cumming
Pick #11: Melbourne – Aidan Schubert
Pick #12: Melbourne – Lachie Dovaston
Pick #13: Hawthorn – Sam Grlj
...
ROUND TWO:
...
Pick #33: Richmond – Matthew LeRay
Richmond will address the hole on their wing by selecting LeRay, who – like Harley Barker – boasts aerial ability, ball winning, and strong foot skills. Having already addressed their inside needs, LeRay will bolster the Tigers’ outside game and future-proof their transition play.

I can’t work out why some Phantom drafts have us picking a mid sized backman , I hope our recuiters don’t have that mindset where they just go after the same type of player like we went after small outside left footers for years , I surely hope not.
I’m hoping we take Robey and Cummings now.

From what i can gather from reading all these projections is that they have us taking Taylor because he is the highest rated player available at that pick and/or we drafted 3 mids last year so couldn’t possibly pickup 2 more this year  ::)

Robey and Sharp for mine. Will be pretty filthy if we pass on Sharp and he ends up being a gun. He’s been the best performing and most consistent player in this draft class for atleast 2 years now.

ESPN draft profile of sharp says "he has put together one of the best junior careers ever". Which is rather high praise.

Foxfooty player comparison of Taylor is AFL player comparison: Josh Weddle/Nathan Broad. Which is a little concerning for a top4 (open) draft pick.

Still , Vlastuin is a looming big hole and Taylor seems the best replacement.

Wasn’t Brown along with the other back flankers from the previous year plus Trainer last year all replacement for Floss.
We have larger holes in our team than we do in our backline.

We have many holes , but prob half the coaches preferred back6 is the wrong side of 30.

Trainor is pretty big , not sure if he can fill that role. Brown and banks are not a sure thing yet unfortunately.

Taylor seems a level above too
