Snubs, steals and deals: Latest intel in every AFL club’s best — and worst — draft scenarios

RICHMOND

Current draft hand: 3, 4, 38, 68

The Tigers are set to gain two more young guns just one year after snagging seven 18-year-olds in the draft’s first 28 picks. While their third and fourth overall selections are set to slide four spots due to matched bids inside the top 10, Richmond seems likely to pick two of Sam Cumming, Sullivan Robey, Xavier Taylor and Sam Grlj, with rebounder Jacob Farrow linked to one of Richmond’s picks late in the pre-draft process. It’d be hard to go wrong with any of those names. Robey and Cumming are centre-forward types who’ll add a dynamic attacking element wherever they land, while Taylor is a mid-sized interceptor with offensive capability and Grlj is a back-half line-breaker. Regardless, after the Tigers’ first-round involvements, a best-case scenario would see them land father-son prospect Louis Kellaway late in proceedings without having to match a rival bid. On the other hand, having to match a bid wouldn’t be ideal. Richmond would also be absolutely thrilled if it landed small forward Latrelle Pickett with its third choice, having been in on now-Sydney forward Malcolm Rosas ahead of the trade period.

Foxsports like Twomey also has us taking Robey & Cumming.

In the mix/trade watch:

 Right, my word, this is where the mystery surrounding this year’s draft really begins. The Tigers have been strongly linked to four players at these selections: Robey, Cumming, Xavier Taylor and Sam Grlj, with some late whispers around Jacob Farrow too. And when you ask around about what Richmond might do with these two picks, seemingly every person has a different combination. Many sources spoken to by foxfooty.com.au would be flabbergasted if the Tigers overlooked Taylor — a gun versatile defender who’s seen by some as potentially the final piece in the Richmond backline puzzle. Others have long linked the Tigers to midfielder Grlj, who played for Richmond’s VFL side and would bring a unique, tantalising athletic profile — the combination of speed, power and endurance — to the Tigers’ list. One thing is for certain: Whichever two players the Tigers select at Picks 7 and 8 will shape arguably the next 10 to 15 picks.

I have always liked Cummings so hope we get him. He has speed and aggression , looks like Butters to me.
I heard we may trade pick 38 as part of the deal , 4 and 38 for 5 and  9 and a later pick . It will be interesting to see if it happens

Hell no to that trade IMO.

Just stick with our picks.

If the Grlj rumors are true it would make sense.

I'd also prefer to hold what we got.

Squeaky bum time

It all depends on who our recruits rate higher out of cumming/robey/XT. Although we don’t know for sure, all signs point to bombers wanting Robey ahead of those 2 so if our team rate cumming and XT higher and would pass on Robey anyway, it makes all the sense in the world to do 3 for 5 and 9. Still get the 2 players they would have selected anyway and add another player at what will become pick 13 after bids are matched. If it does play out like that then atleast in terms of executing a plan, recruiters need to be applauded for keeping their plans so tightly sealed that no one knows what we are doing.

I’d 100% not be giving up our pick 38 as per of it though, seems like we’re gonna get an opportunity to get a good player there too.
From a draft points viewpoint, trading picks 3 + 38 for 5 + 9 would be a massive win if we still get the players we want at 4 & 5.

Pick 3       =  2178 pts
Pick 5 + 9 =  1795 + 1355 = 3150 pts

Difference = 3150 - 2178 = 972 pts = pick 15.

Pick 38   277 pts.

Although he has Robey & Cumming to us in his phantom draft, Twomey just said he thinks we'll take one of Robey/Cumming and one of Taylor/Grlj.

Can't knock the Club being watertight and not revealing anything. Maximising the value of our early picks if we do end up doing a trade.

We better be trading our pick 4 for 2 of bombers or dees picks if they are taking one of Taylor/grlj.

Even assuming we are Bidmond tonight and our picks end up 7 & 8 and Essendon's 9, 10 & 13.

Pick 7          = 1543 pts

Picks 9 + 13 = 1335 + 1080 = 2415 pts

Difference = 2415 - 1543 = 872 pts = pick 17

And even if pick 38 comes into say pick 33 = 382 pts then doing the trade is still a big win if we end up with the two players we always wanted anyway.

Especially if they are paying for a player that we are overlooking.
