Yze on SEN 18-09-25 / Tigers will hit the draft (SEN)

SEN Breakfast's Garry Lyon and Tim Watson speak to Adem Yze about the last two years and what more is to come.

----------------------------

Speaking on SEN on Thursday morning, Yze was steadfast in the Club’s commitment to this year’s draft.

“We’re really clear that we’re going to hit the draft again,” Yze said.

“We’ve got two early draft picks again, and we’re looking for young talent to bring in. For this season, we’ll do that again.

“We might look to free agents and things like that next year and moving forward.

“Last year we brought a lot of young talent in, we’re going to do that again this year and start to think of those things next year.”

Yze added that the plan this year will be to draft players that mesh strongly with the talent injected through last year’s draftees.

“We think we filled a lot of the gaps that we needed. We brought in Harry Armstrong, Jonty Faull and Tom Sims, so we got a lot of height (up forward), and we got a lot of key defenders,” Yze said.

“Our key position stocks are really strong at the moment, we are just really young.

“Obviously, the talent with Sam Lalor, Josh Smillie, Taj Hotton…we feel like we have filled a lot of gaps with our youth.

“We’re looking to bring in some talent through this draft that will complement what we brought in last year. Right now, the gaps are the exposure and experience that we need these players to have and feel on an AFL field.”

Reading between the lines, it sounds like he knows we need small forwards, small defender(s) and mids.

It wouldn't surprise me if we drafted into the draft depending on whats available.

I'd expect following players to be explored in trade options to see what clubs would pay for them:
Short, Taranto, Hopper, Balta. I wouldn't be exploring Vlastuin or Broad, they are your fabric type players.

Could easily get into the 2nd round with Hopper or Short. Taranto and Balta would get us into the 1st round possibly next year even.
Go Tigers!

Why do we want more picks this year in a well reported weak/shallow draft. We have 2 top-end picks to grab the highly rated players and we move on.

If we are making any trades I’d be going for picks next year.

The draft to hit hard was last year and the club played that beautifully. Early days but the top30 or so picks last year look to be super talented.

The only reason to do a deal if it is in our best interest . Example ; another club wants to pay overs to get a must have player  that doesn’t fit  what we are after. I think we should Keep an open mind as the worse case would be to use our picks and pick up Kellaway later in the draft at this stage.

I would absolutely trade dumb dumb Balta.

If not turn him into a Ruckman.

That idea is as stupid as you think Balta is. Did he hack your account and post that?
While he might make a good ruckman, until he improves his endurance running it won’t work.
If he could get an engine, I would like him as wing - his right hoof could come in very handy although I suspect his best position will be as a swingman key position player
"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”
