The premiership quarter saw the Burgers outscore their opponents six goals to one and help set up a great victory. Greg Tivendale was simply outstanding for the Burgers booting six goals in a best on ground display.
The Burgers kicked with the breeze in the first term, but didn’t take full advantage of it taking a slender ten point lead into the first change.
¼ Time: Coburg 4.5 (29) Sandringham 3.1 (19)The Zebras really got on top in the second term and controlled the quarter kicking ten scoring shots to the Burgers solitary goal. Coburg’s effective disposal rate was down in the second quarter and Sandringham capitalised on it.
Alex Rance and Andrew Horne both found a lot of the footy, and had it not been for the efforts of these boys and a couple of others in the backline the halftime margin could have blown out even more. As it was the Zebras took a nineteen point lead into the main break.
½ Time: Coburg 5.5 (35) Sandringham 8.6 (54) It was very important the Burgers built a lead heading into the final term, and that they did! The boys made full use of the wind in the third term, as they piled on six majors and kept Sandringham to just the one goal. Greg Tivendale played another blinder of a game playing across the wing and through the forward line. His opponents couldn’t keep with him as he finished with a fantastic haul of six goals. Tivendale is now an odds-on favourite of winning the Liston Medal.
Chris Hyde and Paul Shelton both collected a swag of possessions playing on ball for the majority of the match.
¾ Time: Coburg 11.8 (74) Sandringham 9.8 (62) The Seagulls pushed hard in the final term kicking four majors, but the Burgers stood tall and added another three themselves to finish with a spirited six point win. Big man Angus Graham was solid around the ground and won his majority of knock outs in the ruck, while Alex Rance also highly impressed the crowd, with his ball use and courage.
Next week the Burgers head to Casey Fields to take on the Casey Scorpions, the game starts at 1.10pm, while the Reserves start at 10.20am
