Not for 8 weeks at least if he's going on the long-term inuury list. Thanks for that TFL.

Any word on who will be promoted? Out of Collard and Howat I hope we go for Collard.

I've split this from the rising star thread TFL as it's news that deserves it's own thread.

What's the problem?  He is a kid who is injured and we still don't know if he is going to make it or not.  What a great opportunity to trial a rookie and see if he has what it takes.  If he is going to be any good, Cotchin has 15 odd years in front of him and we aren't going anywhere serious this year that he will miss out on.  Patience will pay off in spades with a kid like this.

Disappointing but plenty of time. Don't want to end up with another Meyer so lets take it carefully.

Actually see it as a good thing in the sense that they are taking the slowly slowly approach rather than trying to manage him through the season which could have consequences down the track. SO he miss soame games in 2008. Big deal. I'd rather him miss half of 2008 and then play 200+ games than have him play 22 games this year and struggle with thesame problem on and off for the next 5 years

Smart move IMHO

totally agree the kid is the future and it would be silly to waste a number 2 pick and for him to future complications, still what have we done as a football club to keep getting the raw end of the deal with injuries. :banghead

it may seem that way rog but if you look at other lists they all have injuries too. some alot lot worse.

the right move for the club. this will mean best in first served over the next month. I personally think Cartledge will get the nod for structural reasons but whoever of the rookies shows the most over the the nab/practice matches will most likely be lacing up for round one.

Will give all the rookes a big incentive to work even harder over the next month and that can only be a good thing.

My initial thoughts too but not because I care if he plays or not this year.

I just hope he recovers from an injury obviously as serious as this.

We do need to have patience with this kid. I know his potential brings excitement to many of us but I'd be more keen to see a ready-made like Collard
have a go. He's been impressive in training so far. This of course is depending on how Simmo and Gus are progressing, we may even promote Cartledge as a safeguard and allowing players like Simmo and Patto to go forward more often. I want Trent to be 100% fit before he takes the field and then come through the Burgers.

Exactly tiga. We need Cotch for the next decade; not this year.

There's argument for any of the rookies to be promoted. Collard is a small for small, Cartledge provides back-up in the ruck as you say tiga, and Sylvester takes the pressure off Thursty and McGuane to be rushed back into our defence. At least we have some back-up options this year that aren't injured themselves.

Damn shame about Cotch, but hey were doin the right thing with his progress. Was lookin forward to seeing him play.
Would like to see what  Cartledge has got to offer as he looks a good size and from the AFL videos a good pair of hands. A good Ruck duo would do wonders for our midfield.
Bring on the footy
