August 31, 2012 PORT Adelaide has snared head fitness coach Darren Burgess from Premier League soccer club Liverpool. The Power beat Richmond and the Adelaide Crows in securing Burgess as the club continues its search for a new senior coach and fights to retain the services of reigning club champion Travis Boak.
Richmond was confident it had persuaded the former Socceroos high-performance boss to move to Melbourne. But Burgess, 37, who worked for Port between 2005 and 2007 and was seen as one key architect behind the club's feat in reaching the 2007 grand final, is understood to have accepted a lucrative offer from his old club and was keen to return to Adelaide for family reasons.
