Should be a good game and im hoping saints win this week otherwise next week could be a real scrap for a win

Hahaha this ain't VPL Ramps avoiding going to Preston or the Knights. :lol :rollin :lol
I say let our boys play in front of big crowds. The more Tiger fans in the terraces the better. If we don't pay for these nothing clubs which is fine the AFL will prop up these sorry unsuccessful organisations anyway.

No other club gets a cent from me -only one I wouldn't begrudge would be the dogs as a fair few of them stuck by us for save our skins!

im happy with a win by a point, although the heart won't

I would like to see us winning by at least 3 goals. A nice comfortable night of footy.

I've got a feeling this game, or perhaps the bulldogs game in 2 weeks, will open the flood gates for us, similar to when geelong thrashed us in '07

:cheers would do a great deal for my nervous system this time around :lol
Although need to start building good percentage where possible

This game against the saints now takes on added significance. Will they bounce back hard after being embarassed up north?
-
Saints fans won't show up now

I'd like 50+ point win, but happy with just a win by any amount.
Will be interesting, its a short turn around after a humid game for the saints, add that its a short week and they travelled and they might be thinking themsleves out of the game already.. We can only hope.

Important for the boys not to get ahead of themselves.
Any team can beat any team if they're switched on. It's important for the boys to be switched on all game.
4 quarters is what we want not 3!

Saints lost to Port Adelaide in round 1 last year - they then went on to smash their next two opponents.

SPOT ON!
Richmond will have many important matches and the St Kilda match is just that!
Do not under-estimate St Kilda.
They will be out for blood and if we are second to the football, they will run us off our legs!
-
Underestimate them at our peril.
Probably another heart stopper like last week.
In reality we should win easily but footy and Richmond don't work like that.
Please rid us of our heart pills this week Richmond.

Our team is better on paper and we should be a 6 goal better team but who knows wgich rfc will turn up
-
Don't think we'll underestimate a team we have only gotten over once in 14 cracks, and we're sitting outside the 8. No illusions of grandure there. Jack will get the lads up.

I hear the Saints are bringing Kosi back for this special occasion. Griffith better put his man nappy on at night.

Grimes mentioned today that he was on track to play this Fri night, so I guess man nappy boy can save his huggies for Coburg ;D

I reckon I would want Grimes to play a full game at Coburg before he plays a full senior game. The last thing you need to do with dodgy hamstrings is to put them under maximum pressure and fatigue.

From the HUN's
The Barometer:
RICHMOND
INJURIES
David Astbury (foot) 1-2 weeks
Nathan Foley (Achilles) 4-6 weeks
ON THE BLOCK: Not many. Brandon Ellis was subbed off against Carlton but would be unlucky to get the axe after an impressive pre-season, while Robin Nahas had an impact after taking off the red vest. Troy Chaplin struggled to pick up the pace of the game at times but will be better for the run.
ON THE CUSP: Plenty. Dylan Grimes is the most likely to get a call-up after getting through three quarters for Coburg at the weekend and picking up 11 disposals. If for some reason the Tigers wanted to make wholesale changes, a lot of players put their hands up in the VFL practice match including Nick Vlastuin (22 disposals), Matt Dea (31 disposals), Chris Knights (28 touches) and former Kangaroo Aaron Edwards (five goals and eight marks).
AL PATON’S FORECAST: Could go in unchanged for the clash against St Kilda on Friday night, when the Tigers hope to start a season 2-0 for the first time since 1997. But fringe players will know they have to perform to keep their spots – a situation Richmond hasn’t enjoyed for a while.

-
Grimes for Griff and Nahas for Vlastuin.

If Kosi plays, Griff stays and i see Grimes playing another week at least in the 2's to get his match fitness up. It will be interesting decisions for them to make on what our best backline looks like. i really like Griff in the side and having a 200cm mobile defender is important, as long as he pulls his weight and plays a bit better than last week. What i find interesting is Chaps and Grimes play similar roles and i cant see either taking on St Nick
Nahas to make way for Matty White as the sub as he offers the team (not the girls) more. lmao.
But i see Grff going to Kosi or Hickey, Rance to Roo, Morris to Milne and if Maister plays Chaps will pick him up.

Dylan Grimes on fringe of selection for Richmond
BY:GREG DENHAM
From: The Australian April 01, 2013 12:00AM
RICHMOND may consider one change to the line-up that defeated Carlton by five points last Thursday at the MCG.
Defender Dylan Grimes, who played just nine games last season because of hamstring problems, has claims to being recalled against St Kilda at the MCG on Friday night.
He played for Coburg in the VFL on Saturday and new Tigers general manager of football operations Dan Richardson said yesterday he could be included for his first senior match since round 14 last year.
"He's now had three games under his belt since hamstring surgery so his fitness is almost at the level required," Richardson said.
Richmond has some valuable depth players on the verge of senior consideration. Former Adelaide forward Chris Knights is also gaining some match practice in the VFL, while promising teenage midfielder Nick Vlastuin played on the weekend after being an emergency against Carlton.
However, speedy midfielder Nathan Foley is at least another month away because of his limited pre-season due to Achilles issues.
Richmond coach Damien Hardwick, who broke his first-round duck at his fourth attempt, also defeated Carlton and its coach Mick Malthouse for the first time. He had previously lost both games against a Malthouse-coached Collingwood in 2010 and 2011.
It is also the first time the Tigers have been ahead of the ledger with a positive win-loss ratio in any one season under Hardwick, who took over as senior coach at the start of 2010.
Midfielder Brett Deledio emphasised the breakthrough first-up victory needed to be built on to maintain self-belief to mount a challenge for an overdue final-eight finish.
"Round one is always massively built up and has been over the last six or seven years, but then you go into round two knowing it's like any other game," Deledio said.
"It's going to be a big game and we are on centre stage again, so hopefully everyone turns up and we are up for it.
"There is nothing like having the confidence that comes from winning. It can take you a long way. We have definitely got things to work on, but to be 1-0 instead of 0-1 is a pretty good feeling."
Meanwhile, Carlton will today know the result of Chris Yarran's match-day report for striking Bachar Houli, in what appeared to be a left-arm punch to the body off the ball. If the charge is assessed as being behind the play, it will automatically be deemed intentional.

he's played 7 qtrs of footy.. iirc 2 halves and last week 3 qtrs.. imo, i'd wait another week, until he can at least play a full vfl game.. players were out on their feet in round 1 with a full pre season behind them

Grimes has only played limited quarters to cotton wool him. Don't doubt a second he's not ready to come back to seniors. I reckon the fact we didn't rush him back round 1 speaks volumes.

Members with a reserved seat, or an access membership, can attend the game by scanning their 2013 Richmond membership card at the gate.
For this replacement home game, Richmond reserved seat members have General Admission access. If you haven't yet decided where to sit, the Tigers’ cheer squad will be at the Ponsford Stand, (entry via Gate 1).

In the Mix - Round 2
afl.com.au
RICHMOND
Coming off a win and with no injuries, the Tigers might not touch their line-up although they do have options. Dylan Grimes played three-quarters in the VFL on the weekend at half back and might come into calculations if they consider he's had enough game time following a hamstring injury. Orren Stephenson had 32 hit-outs, forward Aaron Edwards kicked five goals and first-year player Nick Vlastuin had 22 possessions. Matt Dea and Chris Knights were also prolific. Ricky Petterd said his groin injury "was just a couple of days off" when he missed out on the Carlton game so he might be considered if fit.
ST KILDA
With Richmond's tall forwards looming, the return of Sam Fisher (foot) would be timely. The tall defender needs to have proved his fitness at a closed training session on Tuesday morning, along with All Australian backman Sean Dempster (hamstring). Coach Scott Watters expects Dempster to be available while Leigh Montagna will come straight back in after serving a one game suspension. Adam Schneider is building game time and should be available, while key forward Justin Koschitzke will be considered after impressing with his defensive pressure in a practice match for Sandringham.

Preview: Saints v Tigers
By Nathan Schmook
afl.com.au
April 2, 2013
SUMMARY:
After losing to Gold Coast by 13 points in its season opener, St Kilda will be desperate to atone on Friday night and avoid its first 0-2 start to a season since 2000. The Saints slumped in the final term against the Suns, allowing Gary Ablett to run riot sand snatch a win for his young team. Richmond, meanwhile, will enter this clash buoyed by its first round-one win since 2008. The Tigers had a last quarter to forget, however, and were fortunate to escape with a win. Key midfielders Trent Cotchin, Brett Deledio and Dustin Martin were all in top form.
WHERE AND WHEN: MCG, Friday April 5, 7.50pm
TV, RADIO AND BETTING: Click here for broadcast guide
LAST FIVE TIMES
R10, 2012, Richmond 18.13 (121) d St Kilda 16.17 (113) at Etihad Stadium
R2, 2011, St Kilda 13.17 (95) drew Richmond 14.11 (95) at the MCG
R21, 2010, St Kilda 17.13 (115) d Richmond 14.10 (94) at Etihad Stadium
R11, 2010, St Kilda 14.13 (97) d Richmond 8.11 (59) at Etihad Stadium
R13, 2009, St Kilda 13.14 (92) d Richmond 5.6 (36) at Etihad Stadium
THE SIX POINTS
1. St Kilda and Richmond met only once in 2012, in round 10 at Etihad Stadium, and the Tigers won a thriller by eight points.
2. The Tigers midfield proved the difference last time with Cotchin, Deledio and Martin all winning more than 25 possessions. No St Kilda player had more than 25.
3. The Tigers narrowly won the contested possession count 144 to 139 in round 10 last season.
4. The past two clashes between the sides have gone down to the wire with a draw in 2011 and an eight-point result in 2012.
5. With that win in 2012 Richmond defeated St Kilda for the first time since round four, 2003; prior to last season the Saints had won 13 in a row.
6. At the MCG there have been 30 previous matches with 19 wins to the Tigers, eight to the Saints and three draws. This will be only the second Friday night clash at the MCG between St Kilda and Richmond in history.

Always concerned with teams that have traditionally had the wood on us and until recently the Saints were one of them. I also noticed that they are bringing back Montanya and Kosi for the game. Probably thought to rest them against the GC easy beats :
I don't think Ellis should be dropped for the game but I would like to see White or Vlaustin rewarded with a place in the team, even as a sub, over Nahas. Nahas did nothing in that role on Thursday. Griffiths is a weapon kicking out of defence and the fact they give him that role speaks volumes of the confidence the coaches and players have in his decision making and poise under pressure. He opens up the oppositions kick in zone because he can accurate pinpoint a pass to 60m and launch it over a zone with a 70m bomb. His defence needs work though without a doubt. :-\
Another big game
-
I agree stripes, Griff's kick ins were great and as you said he has a delivery area bigger than DHL.
-
Hope Kosi comes back. Griff toweled him up last time.
-
Robin Nahas had an impact after taking off the red vest.
*green
-
I dont really care who gets dropped but if Grimesy is ready he should come straight back in.I rate him almost as much as cotch.
I fully agree about the importance of griffs disposal ,its something the back half has really needed for many years now, however his kicking wont keep him in the team long term if he doesnt start winning some of his own ball.
-
The game played by Batchelor against the blues was very good. He was definitely the pick of the defence. His reading of the play was top notch. He must retain his spot. With Griff his kicking out was good but I agree he needs to work on winning the ball in open play. I don't see any changes to the forward line. All forwards contributed well against the blues. I was very impressed by Jack's game. He was completely selfless. I think if there is to be a change I would consider dropping Ellis and bring in Grimes. Agree Griff should play on Kosi. Would like to see how Grimes goes on NicK R.

Very long point post
and everyone standing around in an interesting spot. and wheres the ball
-
Just wondering if this game is still on? The fixture says there are 9 games this weekend but I'm only hearing about Carlton v Collingwood on Sunday?

don't be a sook mate ::)

I'm outraged. Angst and woe, angst and woe.

Firstly, like Coach, I can't see where the footy is and secondly, who would think that advertising natural pet food at a footy game would be allowed? Surely the game day caterers would complain to the ground operators with them allowing competitors to advertise at their contracted place of business.
-
and wheres the ball
Yeah, where is the ball??
-
Honestly thought it was the blokes holding hands on the bottom right. Can't see who it is from my phone. Then again, can't see if that's holding hands or giving a prostate exam.
-
We're wearing black shorts at Etihad! :banghead ;D
But yer where the stuff did the ball disappear to. Maybe Cotch kicked a Tucky up and under. Looking at Jack he's looking at the roof thinking he's gunna take a hanger.

Spoke to Grimesy at training today. He says he has been picked for his first game back.
On a side note only the 22 (from last week) plus Knights, Petterd, Grimes and Vlastuin trained.

Just read the afl.com.au preview. They don't give a tip any more.
This caught my eye though. What is wrong with this picture?
There's no one on the goal line in case the kick drops short?

Saints need more speed to succeed
Robert Walls
The Age
April 5, 2013
Richmond on the rise, St Kilda on the slide. That's what most folks thought over summer. Last week's round-one results probably confirmed that. And if the Tigers beat the Saints on Friday night, it will be definite confirmation.
Even though we are just into the second week of the season, this is a crunch game for both sides. It's a game Richmond should win. The Tigers are back on familiar turf at the MCG, after surviving last week's blockbuster against Carlton. They have had a couple of extra days to prepare, and they haven't had to travel to Queensland to play in the draining humidity as St Kilda did. So with plenty going for them, the Tigers shouldn't let their supporters down.
The Saints just can't afford to drop their first two games of the season, especially against sides that didn't play finals last year. If they do, they'll be playing catch-up football, which is what they did in 2012. They were stiff not to play finals in Scott Watters' first year as coach. Twelve wins and a very healthy percentage (123) would usually cement a top-eight spot, but not last year.
The Saints lost five games by 13 points or less, so they should not be dismissed lightly. Few would realise that the Saints' average score of 106 points per game was second only to Hawthorn. Watters gave his team more licence to attack than his predecessor, Ross Lyon, did. During Lyon's five-year tenure, the Saints' average score was 89 points per game, so Watters was able to conjure an extra three goals per game out of his players. But did that goal gain come at a cost?
In the two years that Lyon coached St Kilda to grand finals (2009 and 2010), it was the best defensive team in the competition, conceding on average just 68 points per game. Last year under Watters, the Saints conceded 86 points per game. In last week's loss to the Suns, the scary thing was that Gold Coast was able to kick seven goals in the final quarter to steal victory.
Watters is to be commended for implementing change. It had to happen. Good to see second-year players Ahmed Saad and Terry Milera thrown into a forward line far too reliant on two players - Nick Riewoldt and Stephen Milne.
Pleasing to see 22-year-old ruck prospect Tom Hickey chosen last week over fading veteran Justin Koschitzke. Playing Rhys Stanley and Arryn Siposs in defence is helping their development and promoting the team's flexibility. And increased opportunities have made David Armitage and Jack Steven improving midfielders. But two who need to return to their best positions are Sam Gilbert and Clint Jones. Having Gilbert run with Gary Ablett was a disaster in round one. The rangy Saint is very good at taking intercept marks across half-back and his run and carry can launch positive attacks. But he gets lost in heavy traffic, when quick decisions have to be made. Jones is a tight tagger who does his best work in the thick of heavy traffic. Playing a permanent role in the back half limits the Saints' run and creative options with Jones back there. It's to be hoped he gets the tough job on Trent Cotchin on Friday night.
Both of these teams could learn from each other. The Tigers were fierce and frantic against Carlton, but you can't sustain that for 100 minutes. They needed to slow the game down at times to deny Carlton the ball and keep their composure. They couldn't do it, and almost lost.
The Saints, on the other hand, have plenty of battle-hardened veterans who have played in plenty of tight games and generally controlled the tempo to win more than they have lost. But do they still have the fire in the belly and some young, quick legs to spark them?
I would love to know why Brendon Goddard left St Kilda. Was it money, or a belief that his team could no longer match it with the best? Perhaps it was both.
It was only one game, but against the young Suns could Riewoldt and Milne have chased harder in the forward line? Between them they had one tackle. Did Nick Dal Santo spend all that he had? Was Farren Ray's mind on the job, because there were fumbles aplenty. Has the game gone past Jason Blake? And can Ben McEvoy become a top-line ruckman as he enters his sixth season? There are not enough fresh legs, so again, it's up to the old boys to carry the can. This time next year, Riewoldt, Milne, Koschitzke, Blake, Dal Santo, Jones, Lenny Hayes, Sean Dempster, Leigh Montagna and Sam Fisher will be 30-plus, with Adam Schneider not far away.
I think Richmond will try to run the Saints off their legs early. I also think I know the main reason Goddard decided to bail out on St Kilda; he could see a window closing.

i'd respect wallsy more if he changed his name to bobby balls

We'll be temporarily top of the ladder if we win this :rollin
-
Got a feeling Dempster will miss tonight.
Interestingly named on the bench which suggests they werent 100% going in.
Hope Fisher plays as he will be underdone and I dont rate him anyway.
Schneider underdone also.
-
Based on the media expectations it is unexcusable if we don't win this game by 15+
-
The way the aints went to water in the last qtr against the Suns suggests that if we can be thereabouts come 3/4 time, I would expect a solid winning margin. Playing Name change guy at FF was ridiculous and Big Boy McEvoy well and truly ran out of steam by 3/4 time. The only thing I am worried about is the return of Montagna. He could lift them and he is fresh so we need to do a lockdown job on him.
-
Just had a look again at rounds 4, 5 and 6 and realised we really need to win the next two :help
-
And don't be surprised if Sam Fisher doesn't quite get up for tonight's clash at the MCG, with Tiger officials certainly surprised his foot problem and match conditioning was at a level ready to play.

All the money for Tigers against Saints
Paul Gough, Betting Editor
Last Updated 05/04/2013
It has taken just one narrow win over Carlton for the money to start flowing for the AFL's perennial heartbreak team Richmond, with the Tigers backed for a fortune to beat St Kilda at the MCG on Friday night to open Round 2.
Such is the confidence in Richmond at Betfair that Daniel Bevan is reporting that an incredible 96 percent of money wagered on the game so far has been on the Tigers - who have firmed from $1.61 into $1.39 - while the Saints, who traded as low as $2.20, are now out to $3.50.
It's the same story at the TAB where the Tigers are now even shorter.
"There has been massive hype around Richmond this week," the TAB's Adam Hamilton said.
"They have firmed from $1.50 to $1.36 and the punters have also backed them at the line at minus 18.5 points which has firmed from $1.90 into $1.85."
And at Centrebet, Michael Felgate says there has been heavy support for the Tigers to make the eight following that first-up win - in from $1.90 to just $1.65 despite the club being famous for having finished ninth on six occasions since the top eight was introduced in 1994.
Given St Kilda's record against Richmond, this will be a much tougher game for the Tigers - who so often struggle when favourites - than the odds indicate and the Saints look great value at the line with an 18.5 point start at odds of $1.92 at sportsbet.com.au and virtually even money of $1.99 at Betfair.
As for margin betting, the Tigers to win by 1-24 points holds far greater appeal at Centrebet at odds of $3.30 than taking the $2.15 on offer on Richmond winning by over 25 points considering you have to all the way back to 2003 at Docklands to find the last time the Tigers beat the Saints by more than four goals.

Must win this game Tiges, this will show if we can handle the pressure yet again of going into a game as a favourite. Win and we have progressed further, lose and it's self doubt time for these games!

Very good then!

What's the GO with punching Tiges!!
-
Missing Griff down back IMO. His kicking out and ability to play on the resting Ruck can't be underestimated. Houli is taking the kick out whereas I'd rather see him positioned to give us drive from the flank.
-
Frustrating game. Batch getting flogged by Beau Wilkes-Harris-Lake-Maister, poor kicking for goal, Shed hardly sighted, two fisted punches, Newy's shot after the siren, can't win a centre clearance.......
-
At least Jack is jumping at the footy!!
Good hard second half required...
Go Tiges!!!!!!!
-
Two-handed punches = the ultimate sign of no confidence. WTF Richmond?
-
Was happy with McGuane actually marking the footy up forward for a change. Our midfield needs to turn it up in the second half and that Jones prick who is consistently holding Cotchin well after the ball has moved on needs his sternum crushed
-
like a dag on a dog's arse, we just cant shake them
-
Centre clearance would be nice...................
-
FINALLY that bastard got pinged for hanging off of Cotchin LOL
-
Hang in here boys they getting tired....
-
aaaand we muff it and let StNick goal...
-
WHY,WHY,WHY...
-
Once again we let our opponent back in with some charity and poor finishing. Every game it's the same. Get some poise FFS
-
we really should have buried these buggers by half time...so frustrating...
-
We'll be lucky to win this. We have been rabble tonight. Very disappointing display tonight by the Tiges.
-
we just cannot tackle to save ourselves....
-
ROFL that umpire loves us
-
I cant watch this anymore. To much stress. Whats the score now?
-
80 to 91 us winning
-
we need a couple more goals to put it away. common we need a nice 3 or 4 goal win please.
-
what a crock of poo, guy tried to iron out Houli, he jumped to avoid it and gets 50 metres....wtf

Maric Goals, 51 seconds to go 81 plays 99

Oh yeah we won ramps :cheers
and the tip rat had a shocker :lol
Kingy nearly pulled off screamer of the century as did McGuane early on :bow

Happy with the win. Conca was outstanding. 2 zip for the first time in 16 years. Good to see that we are winning even though we are not playing at our best.

The saints are cooked.
They need a serious overhaul.
Their great recruits aren't that great. The ageing stars just kept them in it.
We have definitely gone way past them. To win like that after wasting so many opportunities! Just imagine what we are going to do to St Kilda once a couple more of their ageing stars dropoff and we get our poo together. They have got nothing coming through. We will be spanking them by 100 points.

Just got home
Agree with Owl, really should have had them buried by half time. But postive sign they found a way to win in the final qtr
Super impressed with Reece Conca tonight - great game, best he's played
Great to see Grimes back. the "iron fist" returns ;D
Few blokes who were good last week were missing this week - that's a concern but our leaders stood up in the last which was so important
-
Good to grind out a win.
yes we should've smashed them like Blues last week but we found a way to win.
Buldogs to come would like to see a change at the selection table
-
We are one big win from "arriving" on the big stage, lets hope it's next week.
Reece Conca, take a bow. :bow
-
We got caught over the back and on the counter quite a few times last night (due to our often poor long kicking inside 50). A lot of the time it looked like it was the only way the Saints looked like kicking a goal. The game was often too much of a run and gun centre clearance shootout. Great to get the win as we were by far the better side and we controlled the general play for most of the night; however Dimma would want a tighter cleaner defensive effort. Our tackling stat was low like it was last week.

A real positive can still win games whilst not playing our best. Chaplin and Conca were very impressive as was Jack. King and Edwards were good. Martin's game was very good as well. Cotchin beating the tag in the second half shows just how good he is. Grimes was great back in defence. We still continue to miss too many easy shots at goal eg Newman at the stroke of half time. McGuane missed a couple as well. Glad we did not fade away in last quarter. Need to bury the bulldogs. Alot of players abit down and hopefully they can rise against the bulldogs eg Houli
-
My only concern is our low tackle counts. Low tackle counts against the really good sides wont work. We need to improve by a big way in terms of tackle counts. I dont know why each player cant find it within themselves to make on average 2 or 3 tackles a game. 3 tackles per player per game = 66 tackles. Finalists should be up in the 80 tackle range a game.
-
actually not true ramps.
going from 2010 stats, the finalists all had under 80. except for collingwood, those finalists that had more tackles finished lower. the sides with highest tackle counts were all around middle of the ladder and those down the bottom had less.
like most stats, tackle count on its own is not much use.
a high tackle count means that you are getting beaten to the ball a lot and it is tiring to always be chasing.
a low tackle count will mean either of two things.
you are winning a lot of ball and maintaining posession, and the tackles you lay are dispossing the opposition, or you are getting flogged and the cant lay a finger on the opposition and when you do the tackles are ineffictive, thus the bell curve in the graph above
-
Was a bit of a strange game , Jacks back with a veangence. McGuane...stoked he was marking and really looks a forward now, Pettard goes alright, Concs lit it up, Poor old Cotch was getting mugged all night.
Agree with Al but, was annoyed that we weren't making ours stick.
-
Great info Al :thumbsup I'm always wary of 'defensive' stats in isolation from actual winning ratio's.
-
i think our tackle count is low compared to other teams because of all the time the opposition spend trying to lay one on either Cotch or lids(they just dont stick on those 2 boys) ;D
-
Cotch should of had free kicks all night, the amount of times Jones was holding him behind play was ridiculous. When Cotch was involved in a play Jones would be still holding him well after the ball had moved on so he couldn't follow up. It was only in the second half the umpies started paying a few.

Didnt we only have like 40 tackles yesterday? I havent looked at the stats but I heard 40 was the total. Thats a very low figure even in terms of your graph.
-
Good to get a win but a crappy, scrappy game, poor skills and disposal, average game. We need to get better to play the contenders.
-
Thought we played crap
-
not sure what the tackle count was last night ramps. my comment about not being true was more about you saying that finalists should be about 80.
44 does seem a little low, but i know in the past, top sides have absolutely belted the opposition and had a tackle count in the low 50s.
its a funny stat. you dont want it too high, but you want it to be low for the right reasons and really needs to be taken in the context of the results over a period time
-
This time last year we were trying to find positives out of honourable losses ....I'll take a scrappy win any day of the week.

I agree with your logic to an extent, but theres no doubt our tackle count thus far in the first 2 rounds is considerably lower than it should be. Even Roos after last nights telecast said with a higher tackle count perhaps we'll find we dont let sides back into the game as easily/regularly as we seem to do and I'd agree with that summation. I think we still need to find the balance of tackling vs guarding space - should be aiming for 70+ tackles per game on average.
-
not sure what the tackle count was last night ramps.
41 for us, 55 for them according to the AFL site.

I for one am very concerned with our lack of tackling pressure.
It doesn't seem to be be a concern when playing teams around the same like in the last 2 weeks.
But if we think that an average 40 tackles is going to cut it against the top 4 clubs I think they're kidding themselves.
Last year we had 66 against the swans and 77 against the hawks in both those wins.
High tackles against both Geelong and the eagles and just lost.
Low tackle count against the magpies loss.
I personally think we aren't going to cut the mustard against the likes of these 4 clubs unless I see some more desperation and pressure tackling.
....that's my opinion anyway.
I guess we'll soon find out.
-
can anyone remember the stkilda game last yr geez it was a far better standard than this yr. people think we have improved but go compare both games id say we have gone backwards yet we have won.
bruise free footy and atrocious skills yep we are gunna come a cropper real soon. i have to ask does winning really mean improvement.

Yeah last seasons game was a lot better standard but that's a premature call. We're nowhere near our best yet, plenty of scope for improvement that will come over the next few weeks. Lets see where we sit in 5 or 6 weeks then start making comparisons. From memory our first several weeks last season were average and then from about rnd 4(the wce game) to round 10 we really cranked it up before falling away once Foley got injured

Not when we are the away team - those are rules for all teams at the MCG. Home team the Punt Road end if the want it. All clubs chose that end
Exception is games against the Pies as the Pies want the city end for their fans

Great post. Totally agree. We play our best when we are hard and physical. Hasn't happened yet.
-
I for one don't want to be in top form now. It's too hard to maintain all year. Winning ugly is good. Getting the 4 points anyway is good.
-
:lol
what about when it's melbourne's home game Tigra?
Your kidding right?
1) their fans don't show
2) they have the MCC where most of them congregate anyway.
3) we were the first club to have over 1 million spectators watch a season (1980)
And that's when we had to go to all the away games at all the small sized ovals like junction oval, windy hill, western oval, victoria park & kardinia park etc.
So who helped pay all those MCG bills from 1965-1980?.... Melbourne?????
4) do they have any fans that show up?
5) I think that Melbourne are such a rabble of a club that should count themselves lucky they don't get kicked out of the MCG altogether.
6) even if we allowed for your point that it was melbournes home ground first. I might say fair enough in melbournes case if any of their fans bothered to show up at a game maybe then you'd consider letting them use our punt road end. But all other clubs can go and get stuffed!

While I get the sentiment of the punt rd end thing the reality is that we now have 50k+ members and IMO we just seemed to dominate the crowds all over the ground this week and last week.
It was almost laughable how much bigger and louder the tiger fans were in Fri night at a saints home game.

Had a bunch of really funny indigenous Richmond and Saints supporters behind us in the Ponsford stand at the game, and I heard the Saints bloke say "bloody hell... I think we're in the Richmond section. Where is the red, black and white? Wait who's home game is this?"
Good value though. Was half cut by quarter time and whenever anyone like Gilbert or Maister got the ball he'd just say "this could go anywhere."
