I read so many posts on here and I just have to wonder if I'm wrong
Am I wrong to watch my Tigers on the TV and cheer each goal?
Am I wrong to want to see a win at the couple of games I get to go and watch?
Am I wrong to want to sing the song at the end of a game even if it round 17 and finals our out of reach?
Well according to many here I am for the below reasons
1. You’re an Apologist for the club and just accept crap performances for years.
Well no im not. I want to see Tigers winning premierships, I want to see the team improve, I want to see the kids get a chance when they deserve games. These things are not Mutually exclusive with us winning now, in fact I don’t ever think loosing helps these things.
2. The draft picks are going to get worse.
We were never going to finish bottom 4 given our draw even when we were 3 and 9. Draft picks 5 – 9 was our range. I'm sorry guys but the draft is a lottery, pick 5 or 9 can be the same guy, or could be very little difference. EVERY year EVERY club passes over some kid that turns out to be the find of the draft. No reason to lose games.
3. You accept a losing culture.
Oh give me a break, can anybody here define what this loosing culture is. If anybody could they would of fixed it easy by now, there is no such thing and even if there was do you honestly think losing games at the end of the season would help?
4. You support players that will not take us further.
How do you know this, are you some sort of fortune teller. I see things in players others don’t and visa versa. Doesn’t make me wrong to want to support most of our players and hope they do reach their potential.
Ok guys am I wrong to every week say “Go Tigers” at the start of a game and hope for a win? I wont agree with everything the club does (eg selection this year) but there is no way Im going to stop wanting us to win each week.
-
Nope.
:cheers

Neither Fluffy, you keep on doing what your doing and one year eventually the RFC will do the right thing by us
-
Geez Geez maybe some fans are just getting sick of the relentless and repeated god damn stuff ups by the club at the selection table, with the game plan, at draft time etc etc etc. we are told things are different now but we are still just an average side at best and thats being kind. Whats worse is from a PR perspective the club keeps trying to hide its mistakes and is dishonest with its members.
This frames the context of every game day.
its a love~hate relationship for many.
you do what you want, others will do what they need to do.

I read so many posts on here and I just have to wonder if I'm wrong
Am I wrong to watch my Tigers on the TV and cheer each goal?
No if their opposition goals. No if its a good young player who we are developing. Yes if its an old hack that is list clogging and has been pulling out of contests for years. No if it costs us a draft pick because Richmond supporters know we need every little bit of help we can get. (see sarcasm on last point, yes)
Am I wrong to want to see a win at the couple of games I get to go and watch?
Yes if its at the expense of long term success. Yes if you want to see the club win more than a couple of games. Yes if you only go to a couple games. Why whine when the dedicated supporters see this poo week in week out. No, if you don't give a stuff about the long term future of the club and just want short term appeasement.
Am I wrong to want to sing the song at the end of a game even if it round 17 and finals our out of reach?
No. If mediocrity makes you happy, sing your lungs out. You could have been doing it for 30 years now. No one really cares. You should take some music lessons to make the most out of the experience.
Be whatever you want to be. Have a good whine about the supporters that don't accept mediocrity if you like. Just keep the tissues handy.

My attitude is to always support the team during games and always want to win.
I never bag players at the ground and can't stand people who do.
But I also think it is the duty of every member of any organisation to hold the management of the organisation to account.

Good point Big Richo and I agree 100% . Unfortunately posting on a non official website doesn't really cut it as holding Management to account. Im guilty of ranting at things the club does at times too (eg. selection this year). If only there was some way to get our points across without being so negative and denigrating people.

this
This season has taken the cake for me - its been too long - there is no more benefit of the doubt from me for this club, just sick and tired of their perpetual under achieveing and the seemingly never ending cycle of pooness. Over the BS excuses, over the feel good BS stories, just over it

I can understand that but I am really struggling to understand why if people are so "over it" they keep posting and coming back here. This question is probably at the heart of my initial post and not directed specifically at you tony_montana.

all good FT, each to their own - I don't want to see us lose games purposely and each time the team takes to the field I want to see them play well but...
Why are we playing Morris with a bung shoulder? Why wasn't he sent in for a reco 8 weeks ago when our season was shot? It takes a good 6 months to fully regain strength from a shoulder reco, he could've been ready for day 1 of preseason, now if he does have a reco he'll miss most of the preseason and be underdone for 2015..
Why aren't we getting more games into the likes of Arnott, Lennon, McDonough, Darrou, Helbig etc? Instead we're moving heaven and earth to win dead rubbers against weak opposition with experienced bit part recycled players, why? to be able to then use it for marketing purposes "look out 2015!" when realistically we'd get more out of playing the kids and finding out a bit more about them which would only benefit us in the long term anyway. Every club does this, every single club except us, why? Its infuriating and just shows the club has no idea OR they care more for the dollars now than the medium long term viability of the side.

I actually think these forums are an excellent way of getting things brought into the spotlight.
The club monitor them and the media certainly use forums often for stories and opinion.

See your not really over it, you do care. :) Agree with most of that (a couple of the players we maybe not on same page). We are never going to agree with everything the club does, as far as Im concerned though I would much rather watch this group of players than what was here when Hardwick took over. There is a positive in that, I get the feeling some here would rather be back then or are just happier belting the club. I love my Tigers, always will. Good, bad and ugly. Doesn't mean I don't want to see improvements though.

Excellent post Tony.
FLuffy Tiger: I appreciate your view too.
For me it's been pretty simple. I don't like losing (hate it actually) but I can handle it if I can see the direction the club is heading in and as long as they are honest with the members. This is the first time I can remember being so disillusioned with the club. Been disappointed before but this year it is the spin that hurt the most. I just feel like they treated us as fools.
Sadly this year try as I might I don't see the direction. The selections all season have been baffling, frustrating and at times downright pathetic.
We get told we don't gift games anymore but for the majority of the season games have been gifted. Selection has proven it time and time again.
We've had so much spin, incredibly painful spin. When things were at their lowest the spin was simply dishonest mumbo jumbo. And it changed on week to week basis
Now because we've won a few games they start actually telling the truth in that they are saying what they should have said after the Melb loss, after the N0rt loss. Why wait until round 18? That's what I mean when I talk about dishonesty.
I love this Club, always have always will. But right now I dont respect it and that's going to take time to get it back. Balls in the club's court
Do I go to games wanting to win? Sort of I go to games wanting us to show fight, courage and desperation. Give me those and the results usually take care of themselves.
But I will never begrudge or criticise anyone who wants to cheer on every goal, wants a win. It's just for me right now i am so "numb" to it all that I just go to games, no expectation, no passion, I just go to catch up with friends. Nothing more nothing less

Totally agree. We need to develop if we are to progress and that means investing in youth in the draft, giving younger players the chance to develop and not continuing to play mediocre players who are not the future. Everyone on this site wants us to be a successful club. By accepting mediocrity the club will never develop in the right direction.

Basically, Fluffy, your view is soft as pee.

Yeah, you could say its very "Fluffy". Thing is it not soft, it was not exactly easy to come out and say "Hey why are you all so negative?". knowing you will cop a belting.

well, firstly ur not copping a belting.

Actually rate this thread and almost all of the posts.
It's a good debate - actually hard to disagree with a lot of posts.
Goes to show you the Tigers are a pretty polarising club - which is an issue for them be it this forum, the board room or at the AGM.

And that leads to another pile of crap they tried to sell (and succeeded with some).
The reason why we took only ONE junior in the last draft was because of a compromised draft. CRAP

See your not really over it, you do care. :)
Fluffy, following Richmond as a supporter for anyone in their late 30s or older is like having a disfunctional child. just because you are over it doesnt mean you dont care. its not like the extreme post 9/11 George Bush view that you are either for us or against us.
theres a caring yet responsible and measured middle ground. accountability is everything.

i watch the tiges on tv and cheer em.
i go to some games and defend the bejeezus out of em and want to win when im there.
no i dont want to sing the song its for kiddies imo but i can see why people do.
thing is im a realist and when im not in game day mode (which by the way is becoming even less as i for the first time in my life have refused to even watch em) , when the dust has settled and i look at things dispassionately then i imo rightly bag em.

l can define the losing culture to you very simply.
The culture was started by the club who cut off those who dripped blood for the club. Those who gave the club 100% service for very little reward & then were snubbed like they never existed as the ruthless admin knew better. This culture has been going on at the club since the 50's & was ruthless. Players were traded for other players who gave little or nothing to the club or had already played most of their career. You don't have to look very hard as some of the icon's who have turned their backs on the club like happened to them. l won't stress on all the names but you can see these people over decades working for other clubs which has helped keep us down. Now if the club had taken a better approach & done things a little better, We would not have to bring people from other clubs to coach ours when we have had Tommy Hafey, John Northey, Kevin Bartlett, Neil Balme, Mick Malthouse, Kevin Sheedy, Leon Cameron, Matthew Knights, Duncan Kellaway, Robert Wiley, Chris Bond, Joel Bowden & the many others who could have worked at some capacity at Tigerland except we get people like Geishien, Frawley, Wallace, & forget the rest of them. But our practise by the admin sent us broke & we have struggled ever since.
& that folks is why our club is where it is today, & it will have to fight darn hard with everyone at the club & outside supporting the club to win another premiership. We must all be strong & believe as there are other clubs out there like Melbourne, St-Kilda, Western Bulldogs, who want the same. When you hear the Collingwood supporters mouthing off & saying how much of a good club they are. Just remind them 2 premierships since 1958 is nothing to brag about & proves money don't buy premierships. They are no better off then some of the other clubs who longed premierships. Richmond have had more success with premierships. l prefer to miss the grand final then to bare the losses they had ;D
Keep the Believe. We are going in the right direction. New complex & training facility, New Oval & the largest supporter base the Tigers have ever had in record numbers. Show some passion & show some believe because when it's our time we can enjoy it because premierships are so darn hard to win. l have played in teams where we were the best team all year but lost the premiership. That is how bloody hard they are to win. Hardwick knows how to win premierships & that is why l will stick by him while he is coach.

Great post Tigermonk.
Ill still dispute the losing culture thing though. You have correctly stated some of our history but a Club is just a collection of people. For there to be this "culture" many within the group must posses it. Who at the club now has this culture? I honestly think this term is banded about without any thought as to what it really means. Its a made up term ,probably some journalist come up with it.

My post was not aimed at anybody claw. You make many good points in your posts. Its more a general feeling that even though we are all Tigers supporters, not many post are supportive. I was sort of feeling like OER sort of had become a place to come and bag the tigers and that I really didnt belong here. A moment of total frustration at the lack of support for the Tigers. Im getting over it now. :)

Mate, just ignore those wankers on this forum.
They call themselves RFC supporters when we're winning, and the moment things get ugly they jump ship and start telling you it's your fault for loving them regardless.
Diehards like you are the best. You care for winning every week and you love the club for good or bad. Keep it up.
Personally I'm loving the winning streak at the moment. I don't care that we can't make finals. I'm getting to games and enjoying them again. Everyone else can shove their pessimistic opinions up their butts where their heads are.

I read so many posts on here and I just have to wonder if I'm wrong
Am I wrong to watch my Tigers on the TV and cheer each goal?

I won't criticise you for doing what you feel is right.
I won't criticise the others who do what they think is right.
Everyone looks at our situation and thinks about different ways of getting out of it.
Footy isn't that hard a game. The winner is generally the team who works hardest for longest. If you don't chase hard, tackle hard and man your opponent you usually lose. If you don't run hard to make position when you have the ball and put space between you and the opposition then you generally put the kicker under pressure to find a target successfully. You probably won't win if you fail to make that effort too.
So whether you decide to try to develop youngsters to do just that (and accept losses in doing so) or ask your older players to do that and start winning, both groups want to head in the same eventual direction.
The truth is NOBODY knows the right answer for sure. So keep doing what you are doing because in the end we all love the tiges, and that is why we post here, go to games and pay our hard earned. :gotigers

I think the problem is some people (mainly the negative ones) don't understand balanced opinion. If you fairly criticize player A for not playing up the standard required you are seen as a Richmond hater but if you fairly praise player B for playing a good game whether it be their 3rd good game out of 100 you are a Richmond lover and are the reason the club has a losing culture. You can watch Richmond and hope they win and have fair criticisms of certain players or aspects of the game lose win or draw. The problem is one person expresses one opinion and the people start bashing them for being a Richmond lover/hater.

Thank you.
Come to think of it, it's like, I dunno......this thread is specifically aimed at me.

The point being you can be both depending on which Richmond side turn up!

Hey I converted the missus from Carltank to Tigers, nuff said. It is like turning a Jew into a Muslim, I should get the Nobel peace prize. Next im transmuting lead into gold.. Then again, maybe I should thank mad Mick Malthouse....he is doing wonders over there lol

Second only to the 'Friday night special' in conversion degree of difficulty.

Guess I was not wrong afterall. Nice to see so many positive posts compared to the time if felt I needed to post this. Win or loose next week im still going to be a "supporter" and have a little bit of faith in those on the inside of the club. Mind you that is not blind unquestioning faith, it just a faith that the descion makers have some skills and the best for the club at heart.
One thing that is a negative is that not many of us will live to ripe old ages, I wonder if any of these clever "stats table" journos have got a table for heart attacks per club.

Had no problem watching it.
But was admittedly shaky/weak in the legs for a few minutes after the final siren when I'd gotten off the couch...
