Go Tigress

Couldn't give a continental and think watching grass grow is potentially the better spectator sport, but hope they have a good year for those that do care.

Serious question for those that do care. Woman's tennis is at an elite level. Soccer is decent to watch, as is basketball. Cricket is also getting there as a female sport. How many years away is AFLW from being at a semi reasonable standard? There is no doubt they have gone to early in diluting the talent pool with the extra teams. With footy popular for the girls at a young age over the last few years, should there be a significant jump in quality in another 6-8yrs when those kids reach draft age? Or is that wishful thinking?

I remember watching women's cricket 15 years ago and it was shocking. Now I reckon women's cricket is as enjoyable as men's. So I would say 10 to 15 years for AFLW

Woman’s cricket is definitely on an upward trajectory
Not near the men for me
But definitely far more watchable than AFLW

As someone who has followed the AFLW from day 1 I can clearly see the improvement over the 6 seasons. However I do accept there is a long way to go

While I getting your point TT and agree to a point I think it's important to remember that our women cricketers have only bee fully professional for the last 8 or so years. And I think you'll find the standard of women's cricket improved significantly when the money was poured in for (1) development and (2) allowd players to play professionally. It is only 15 years ago that our women cricketers had to pay to play for Australia. In that they only received a daily allowance and had to pay for uniforms.

I see the same happening with the AFLW. The funding is there now for the development pathways and players are getting reasonably paid. The pay side of things is crucial as it means they concentrate on playing rather trying to juggle playing and working

With that in play I reckon the improvement will come quicker, say 3-5 years

I like the AFLW, in the same way I like watching TAC cup and even local footy and junior footy and same as watching soccer at Olympics. It is what it is but it's competitive sport.

Give me a close AFLW game over a Round 23 Geelong vs WCE game.

I feel that it'll be another 15 years away until it gets to a peak. This is when the first crop of proper developed pathway of juniors are the veterans of the sport. I think it was 4-5 years ago junior girls footy properly started an elite pathway. So when those girls are in their twilight of their careers will we see full lists of developed players from under 10s to AFLW.

Until then I can still appreciate the contest for what it is. Wanting it to be X is where viewers ruin it for themselves.

You know it will have made it when the athletic standard is as professional as the men's game. If Sydney Stack is in trouble for his skinfolds in the pre-season then that tells you all you need to know about the difference between the two. While there are AFLW players who have a competitive advantage simply for being overweight it is not taking itself seriously.

So true.
Look up any AFLW team list player bio and you’ll get height and age but you won’t see weight stats.

I actually enjoy watching the girls play and I think the AFLW has improved heaps from the first couple of seasons. I’d expect a bit of a correction with extra teams in this season.

I reckon it’s been great to see the progression and growth from the beginning.

Geelong v Richmond Preview:

Gemma Bastiani
womens.afl
25 August 2022

A more exciting fixture to close the round than most might realise, these are two sides who are desperately looking to move up the ladder this season. Richmond looks ready to genuinely challenge for finals for the first time, with its quick ball movement from a newly deep midfield into a forward line loaded with Courtney Wakefield, Katie Brennan, Sarah D'Arcy, and Stephanie Williams.

Without the ever-reliable interceptor Maddy McMahon down back for Geelong, Richmond's marking prowess will no doubt be front of mind for the home side. Should they allow enough supply, the Tigers have the potential to pile on a big score, which would be worst case scenario for the Cats. To combat this, Geelong needs to become more efficient out of the contest. Winning clearances as they have done in recent seasons, but actually turn that into attacking drives.

Tip: The Tigers look the goods this season. Richmond by 12 points.

‘It’s super exciting’: Grace Egan prepares for Richmond AFLW debut

Shepparton football star Grace Egan will once again strut her stuff in the AFLW this season, albeit in a different jumper.

Egan, a former Carlton talent, will pull on the yellow and black of Richmond this year, returning to the club where she played two years of VFLW football.

Heading into round one of season seven of the competition, The News decided now was the perfect time to have a chat to the rising star and see how things were shaping up heading into the campaign.

“It’s super exciting,” Egan said on playing for Richmond.

“I probably never would have thought I’d be back, but now that I’m back I don’t regret any decisions.”

Quickly becoming one of the competition’s best midfielders, the talent known as ‘’Greg’’ averaged 15.3 disposals a game in her 23 matches at the Blues.

Finishing fourth and sixth in Carlton’s best-and-fairest counts during her time at the club, the 22-year-old said there were plenty of emotions going into round one.

“It’s always full of excitement and nerves, but no matter who we play it’s always the same emotions,” she said.

“It’s just exciting to finally have the season around again really.”

First up the Tigers will face off with the team Egan supported growing up, Geelong, with a clash against her former club Carlton pencilled in for round eight.

“I’m excited as well as nervous,” she said.

“I have great relationships with the girls there (Carlton) and the staff, so that game is obviously going to be an important one to me.

“I’m more excited than anything because I’ve left on good terms with all the players and staff, so it’s going to be a great day and a game that is going to be filled with emotion and nerves.”

The Shepparton talent’s new side is very much on the rise, with Richmond continuing to build its list after three seasons in the top tier competition.

In 2020 the Tigers did not win a game, however, with an improved result of three wins in their last campaign it is shaping up to be a big season.

"That’s probably one of the main reasons I chose to go back to the Tigers,“ she said.

“The midfield is pretty elite having Mon (Monique Conti) and Ellie McKenzie in there and Sarah Hosking, so to be able to join them and just build on that it definitely looks promising for the future and making finals and hopefully in a few years’ time winning.

“That (finals) is the benchmark for us this year, they (Richmond) haven’t made finals yet in the three years they’ve been a part of it, but we definitely feel like we’re in the right position to make finals this year and that’s definitely one of the top priorities and goals.”

This season is already shaping up to be one of the biggest AFLW campaigns yet, with all 18 AFL clubs now represented and Egan was amazed by how far the league had come in such a short time.

“For example we played a practice match before the men in round 22 on the MCG,” she said.

“So to be able to have those opportunities finally become real just shows how far it’s come and how far it’s going to go.

“To be able to see that Essendon and Hawthorn are being moved to Marvel (Stadium) is just showing how far the comp’s coming and definitely shows a promising future for the girls coming through for the next generation.”

Still a rising star herself, Egan had plenty of advice for youngsters around the Goulburn Valley, telling them to take every opportunity that comes there way.

She called on people to get along and support their favourite team, with round one of season seven now here.

“I didn’t make it my first year, I definitely didn’t stop there though, I just took every opportunity I possibly could,” she said.

“I never said no to trying and even if you don’t make it the first time you can make it the second or third, so that would be my number one advice to give to any girls that are coming up through the pathway.

“It’d be amazing to see more people and families at the games, especially with the time of year since it’s changed and it’s not so much over the summer.”

All pundits were in unison on six of the 18 teams making finals: Melbourne, Brisbane Lions, Adelaide Crows, North Melbourne and Richmond.

Experts are tipping the Tigers, who’ve never won more than three games and finished higher than 10th in an AFLW season, to be the big bolter of season seven, with star midfielder Monique Conti a hot chance to win the competition’s best and fairest award.

“They’ll be another improver,” AFLW expert commentator Chyloe Kurdas told foxfooty.com.au.

“Ellie McKenzie is fit and firing, they’ve brought in Grace Egan who’s elite and a good role player through the middle and wins a lot of footy by doing that. The midfield of Egan, Mackenzie and Monique Conti is really exciting for me.

“I think Bec Miller’s rise in the back-half has been outstanding and Courtney Wakefield I think is so underrated for the Tigers. She can stay at home and contest those marking contests, which allows Katie Brennan more freedom to go out into open spaces – that’s the luxury for them.

“I think the Tigers will go close to top-eight this year. They might be one of the two teams that sneak into the eight outside of the foundation clubs.”

Agree with the 15 years. Maybe not quite that long but need the mass of females that have been in development since they were 5 years old. The ball handling skills need to improve across the competition. The males run around from an early age with a ball in hand all the time. It will take some time for the females doing the same thing to filter through

Agree Chuck, no KB costs us at least 2 goals

But I'm expecting Yassir to give us goals this year. Reckon Wakefield is the other option for 2-3

Great to standard of umpiring in AFLW season 7 is as good as it's ever been.

= Pathetic.

Disappointing 1st qtr. Not quite sure we are not keeping someone back for the turnover

We get the ball and the F50 is empty and when Wakefield is back there she has 2 on her because there is no Brennan. Then our midst don't lower the eyes

Not a bad start.

Our ball movement could be better but it’s expected at this early stage of the season and our forward entries aren’t very good but our attack and pressure has been good.

Skills will improve as the season progresses.

McKenzie’s lace out 45 was awesome to watch and exactly the kind of thing you would want to see round 1.  :clapping

I personally think the grounds should be smaller. It would solve the problem.

How they do that is the issue though.

Sheerin does a Cumberland vs Freo.

Half-time

Richmond   1.0    1.4-10
Geelong     0.1     0.2-2

Goal: Seymour

Should be 3-4 goals up. Dominated play but bad kicking is bad footy.

I haven't paid much attention to AFLW, but I'm watching tonight. Has there at any time been a discussion about the W comp playing on smaller grounds, at least until they build up their skills and fitness? It would have to be more high scoring if they did.

Last night's game at Marvel was one of the best games skills wise etc I've seen and I've watched alot of AFLW

Why? Because of the conditions. Roof closed, fast deck and the game reaped the rewards.

Williams hasn’t touched the ball but I like her attack on the opposition.

I’d put McKenzie in the guts and let her play on the ball.

Decision making could be better. Can’t knock Sarah Hoskings attack on the ball but hopefully she could clean up her skills she really just backs the ball.

Molan and Poppy Kelly are just wasted places in my opinion both not up to the level.

I’ve said this before but I’m a big advocate of the smaller grounds for the women. I’m certain it would increase scoring and make it easier for the girls.

For me it’s a no brainer but how it would be implemented on the AFL grounds would be something that would need to be worked out.

We didn't miss so many easy targets in the practice matches. Real season game pressure getting to us.  Too many blind kicks by our mids into the forward line where Geelong have a spare. When we do make a contest, our small forwards are flying with our talls for the same ball. Then we actually have a setshot we are too tense and missing sitters   :banghead.

We need to come back out with our proper game focus and team connection in the second half.

You can see them trying to hoof it beyond their capabilities because of the size of the ground. I reckon the skills would get better if they weren't trying to kick the leather off it all the time. I remember seeing Brad Miller not make the distance for us from 35-40m out one year. When they're looking for lead-up options from 25-30m out directly in front I think that's a clue that there should be a 35(ish)m line for the W comp as it stands. (And the rest of the dimensions would contract accordingly.)

Don't get me wrong, they need support to improve the competition--just talking poo doesn't help anything. But I don't see why they can't come up with some creative solutions to the scoring problem.

I also think the W comp would benefit from more Hafey era coaching than overly-scientific and highly strategized modern footy. Get some tall bookends and kick it long through the middle. Simple footy.

Pardon the pun, but man on man footy rather than zonal marking would also be better I reckon.

Beautiful intercept mark and then needlessly played on. Go back behind the mark, let your teammates get forward, and take the field kick. It would actually be more enjoyable to watch that style than the handball-happy Bulldogs-ball the men's game has become.

Been the story for 160 years of footy. Missing open targets and bad kicking is bad footy. Panicked under game pressure. Only got ourselves to blame. Today was equivalent to the men's loss to the Suns.

ps. This doesn't excuse pathetic biased umpiring. 6 - 15 after half-time including that "gift" down the ground that put Prepakis in range and gave Geelong the winner  ::).

It was a terrible decision, plus they made sure it was downfield and the girl who was tackled got to take the downfield free.

Same old story with the umps and commentators. Our frees are always scutinised, called lucky and soft. Then they don't even look at the free that cost us the game.

Well that was very disappointing.

Other than Sheerin not much to be excited about.

Not enough players working hard enough to support each other. Skills very poor and our ball movement is terrible.

Hosking was good as was Seymour and Sheerin was our best by a country mile. Millet was good down back. As usual Conti was good.

Molan is terrible, slow and has 0 skill by hand and foot and mindboggling she gets games.

For her height, Poppy Kelly is terrible I’m not sure why we wanted her.

We have a lot of passengers that aren’t willing to do the hard work and it looks as though the girls aren’t fit enough to help out their teammates.

We missed Brennan up forward.

My girl McKenzie got a bit of the ball but her decision making was terrible as she kept kicking it to no one but space at times but because I’m watching on tv it’s hard to know if there was anyone giving an option up the ground. She capable of much better than that.

Terrible loss, terrible umpiring and terrible performance from our girls as the cats pretty much won every stat on the day.

I thought Elle McKenzie was our great hope.  A great kick but kicks it to the opposition almost every time.
Yea very disappointing. She’s better than that.

Not sure what her role was but at times I thought she was quite selfish

I'll post more when I get home and have calmed down a bit

Just bloody angry and embarrassed after that

AFLW Tigers edged by Cats in final minute

By Sarah Black
AFL Media
28 August 2022

GEELONG        0.1     0.2     1.2     2.3  (15)
RICHMOND     1.0     1.4     1.4     1.5  (11)

GOALS
Geelong: Prespakis 2
Richmond: Seymour

BEST
Geelong: McDonald, Prespakis, McDonald, Morrison
Richmond: Conti, McKenzie, Sheerin, S.Hosking

INJURIES
Geelong: Kearns (left shoulder)
Richmond: Nil

Reports: Nil

-----------------------------------------------------------

Richmond fell to Geelong in the final minute in Sunday's season opener at GMHBA Stadium, going down by four points.

Cats forward-turned-defender Claudia Gunjaca took two strong intercept marks in the last minutes as Richmond attempted to clear the ball, before Georgie Prespakis was the beneficiary of a downfield free kick, which she duly converted from about 35m.

Geelong had booted eight goals in its practice match win over Gold Coast, with Richmond piling on eight itself against Hawthorn, but scoring was few and far between in the 2.3 (15) to 1.5 (11) result.

The Tigers had their opportunities to build a sizeable lead in the second term, but booted four straight behinds from set shots, two from Courtney Wakefield, one from Sarah Hosking and a fourth from Emelia Yassir.

Tireless Geelong midfielder Amy McDonald picked up where she left off last season, recording 10 disposals in the first quarter, but did not have another till the opening minute of the third term. She finished with 24 and seven clearances.

Unsurprisingly, the Cats dominated play in the premiership quarter off the back of McDonald's work in the centre and skipper Meg McDonald patrolling the backline.

Usual forward Chloe Scheer had started the second half in the middle, and it seemed to unlock something for the Cats, with Prespakis delivering a low bouncing goal for the Cats' first.

But both teams will want to work on their entries inside 50 after struggling to deliver the ball cleanly in the face of two strong defences.

The Tigers have found one

Richmond only took one 18-year-old in the recent NAB AFLW Draft, instead looking for older players to strengthen particular areas on their list. Height and rebound out of defence were both issues, and 29-year-old Eilish Sheerin appears to have filled both needs. Recruited from AFL Sydney club Inner West Magpies, Sheerin looked totally unfazed in her AFLW debut, playing with dash and dare in her 19 disposals and a whopping 16 intercepts.

Up next

Richmond hosts Adelaide at the Swinburne Centre in the first ever meeting between the pair, while Geelong travel west to take on Fremantle on its home deck.

Ferguson's post-match presser:

https://www.richmondfc.com.au/video/1209797/round-1-ferguson-post-match

-----------------------

"It was a tough one. One team was going to feel ordinary out of tonight, a tight tussle like that. I was actually quite pleased with our last quarter, I thought we were really strong and started to get some more territory and own the game a bit more. They did really well to fight back and keep the game alive, in the end, it was a 50-50 sort of moment. Probably the third quarter was where we lost it rather than the last," – Richmond coach Ryan Ferguson

https://www.womens.afl/news/100688?_ga=2.46645799.1284796830.1654439057-224749430.1603381344

Ferguson also said with so many new players we'll get better week by week as the season goes along once we jell better as a team.

Brennan is a maybe for next week. Ferguson said he can't say for 100% she will play. Early in the week she was going play today but it (her foot) got worse as the week went along so she didn't play.

Umm...No we lost it in the 2nd by not nailing 3 of the easiest set shots you will ever get

I'm glad the coach was "quite pleased" because it was a diabolical performance and I just feel embarrassed

Finally,  it is a 10 week season, not 17 weeks. So TBBH you don't have time for things to "jell"  :banghead.

Would recommend not listening to the presser. I was starting to calm down then listened to it and I'm peeved again

Have said it a few times now. We have a bloody soft draw. We cannot afford to drop games to teams that are around the same mark as us. That's what we did today.

Geelong is an average side. Today they wanted it more at crucial times. Yes the final decision was a shocker but we should not have been in that position.

Congrats tiger girls on going backwards a million miles, such poor execution of disposal like a U8 match

Wakefield was disappointing and no one else was offering an option up forward. Our smalls completely unsighted except for Williams who at least looked like she was trying to get involved by tackling and harassing. New girl Cox I didn’t notice at all.

I know she’s very young but Stella Reid (pick 5) is starting to make Molan look ok. Not a great sign. Poppy Kelly isn’t much chop, besides her height I’m not sure what they saw in her to be honest.

Play the girls that want the ball and maybe get them fitter so they’ll work for each other when they haven’t got the ball.

Good signs from Seymour, Conti, Miller, Hosking, Egan looks pretty good and Sheerin was BOG.

Not all bad news and I’d expect huge improvements next game from McKenzie, Lavey, Dempsey, D’arcy, and Wakefield.

The thing is most on here would have only watched our game yesterday. So I totally understand why people are saying how crap the entire comp is. The game yesterday was an embarrassing spectacle for AFLW

But...

I watched 4 games and part of 2 others over the weekend. There were some great games and there were (ours being the beacon) some shockers. The one at Marvel between 2 newbie sides was brilliant. It was fast, good skills and great game styles. Part of that was because of the quality of the venue.

Believe it or not the comp has c9me along way from season 1 but still has a long way to go.

Our effort yesterday did nothing to help the competition but more than that It did nothing to help
Tiger fans get on board our women's side's ride. I usually try and defend the comp and our team but even i cant defend thst. And that disappoints me the most

Yep I'd be disappointed in the Tiges kicking 3 goals in a quarter most weeks, let alone 3 in a whole game for both sides.

Dunno what the solution is but the product simply isn't viable as a business model and continuing to expand the teams so quickly will only prevent the quality from improving. I don't think there's enough talent for 18 men's teams let alone the women's.

I reckon they need to divisionalise it, practicallty half the AFLW into Div 1 and Div 2, there is a huge gap between the founding clubs and the rest

Without mentioning names there are 4-5 players for us that are simply terrible and not at the standard.
I firmly believe the coaching is impacting performance as they play like them men try to play with handball chains and chipping the ball around.  Most goals I see from the women's game is from come from opposition mistakes and turnovers,
I would be just kicking the ball forward long at all times and limit handballing.
Get all players on the same page so they know where it's going and back them in to win contests.
Simplify.

It’s a disappointing result but I saw some real positive signs. Hopefully some of the other girls can contribute more often.

I've really struggled to find any positives outside of Sheerin and perhaps Williams who is ferocious with her attack on the footy (like Hosking) but struggled with skill execution

Quote

I’d like to have seen more from Dempsey, D’Arcy and Lavey.

Agree, not sure why Lavey spent so much time on the bench. Also, I am convinced D'Arcy is not a forward; looks all at sea

Quote

Wakefield was disappointing and no one else was offering an option up forward. Our smalls completely unsighted except for Williams who at least looked like she was trying to get involved by tackling and harassing. New girl Cox I didn’t notice at all.

Felt for Wakefield. The game plan (and I'm assuming it was the plan) of having her up the ground and no one forward of the ball when we got the turn over and trying to transition was mindboggling.

Then when she was forward of the ball she had 2 on her because we kept having a +1 at stoppages or in defence. She had no hope, all the defender had to do was punch the ball and there was someone on their own to defend because we had no one.

Quote

I’m not sure why we continue to persist with Molan I’m not sure what they see in her to be honest.
Poor decision maker, slow and fumbly and cannot execute correctly by hand or foot.
I’d rather see Jacques play ahead of her.

I have nothing to add here; I made my feelings known yesterday.

Quote

I know she’s very young but Stella Reid (pick 5) is starting to make Molan look ok. Not a great sign. Poppy Kelly isn’t much chop, besides her height I’m not sure what they saw in her to be honest.

I gave Reid the benefit of the doubt last season with it being her first year. Yesterday I was expecting to see more game awareness, more intent at contests but it just wasn't there and it is a worry. to be fair we need to give her more time but I will confess my patience is wearing.

It is funny with Poppy Kelly I thought when they put her at CHF in the last she was actually quiet good. Gave us a traget, took a couple of marks and at least for her when she bought it ground she had some smalls around to try and get the ball or at least make a contest

Quote

Play the girls that want the ball and maybe get them fitter so they’ll work for each other when they haven’t got the ball.

Fair point. Still too much getting left to too few IMHO

Quote

Good signs from Seymour, Conti, Miller, Hosking, Egan looks pretty good and Sheerin was BOG.

Not all bad news and I’d expect huge improvements next game from McKenzie, Lavey, Dempsey, D’arcy, and Wakefield.

Agree regarding Sheerin, I thought she was brilliant. Egan improved as the game went on. She certainly has good game awareness, her problem was those around her when she passing it on didn't.

I believe the Coaches have been let of the hook a fair bit with regard to yesterday's result. They had a shocker! There was no plan B.

But having said that I not exactly sure what plan A was if I am being honest. Flooding the defensive half doesn't work in the AFLW; so I am not sure why we did it and more to the point persisted with it. No point in generating turnovers and trying to move the ball forward if you have no one forward of the ball. Last time I checked if you do that you just hand the ball back to the opposition

Finally, I think Bethany Lynch is massive strife for that tackle. It didn't look good live and looks even worse from the replays I've seen of it in slow-mo. Reckon it will be at least 2-3 weeks

Fingers crossed Katie B is back next week; we need her not just for goals but leadership

I didn’t manage to catch the game and admittedly don’t follow the woman’s league closely however I disagree with adding/changing any rules in an attempt to increase scoring. In fact I say give them the exact same rules as the men (22 players, etc.). The league will take time (I’d say a decade) but it will slowly but surely get there. Atm players coming in have not been training and committing their whole lives to a career in football because not long ago it wasn’t even an option. Hence you are getting woman in that have only had a few years exposure to the game. With the league now established, you’ll soon see girls that have been playing the game for 10+ years of experience in the junior leagues be drafted and naturally the skill level will become a lot better.

If you look back to the early years of the VFL you’ll see similar low scoring matches and I would assume a significantly lesser skill level than what we see today.

Many may disagree but I just hate this ideology that we’ve recently seen in the mens game of changing or bring in new rules to a game that has been around for 100 years to increase scoring. Don’t get me started on the stupid stand, 6-6-6, etc. rules that they’ve brought in to make the game more ‘enjoyable’ to the fans……

AFL signs off on match-winning free, but was it Prespakis’ kick?

Sarah Black
womens.afl
29 August 2022

THE AFL has confirmed Geelong's Georgie Prespakis should not have taken a last-minute downfield free kick which resulted in the winning goal against Richmond.

The AFL ticked off the free kick itself, given away by Monique Conti for a dangerous tackle, and the downfield element of the free.

However, Prespakis herself should not have taken the penalty, which she duly converted in the final minute of the game to pinch the win for Geelong in a low-scoring slog.

Behind-the-goals vision obtained by womens.afl indicates that power forward Chloe Scheer was the closest player to where the ball ended up when the free kick was paid.

The AFL provided the following statement:

"The decision to pay a free kick for a dangerous tackle and for it to be awarded downfield was correct, with umpire coaches ticking it off due to excessive rotation.

"An error was made in awarding the free kick to Georgie Prespakis. It should have gone to the nearest player where the ball landed."

However, Prespakis herself should not have taken the penalty, which she duly converted

Lol
I understand there was only three goals kicked , which is soccer levels , but ffs Sarah, at least pretend it was a game of Australian footy

It’s called a stuffing free kick

AFL signs off on match-winning free, but was it Prespakis’ kick?

FRO AFL u cheating campaigners.  The only free kick that should have been paid was dropping the ball.

Finally, I think Bethany Lynch is massive strife for that tackle. It didn't look good live and looks even worse from the replays I've seen of it in slow-mo. Reckon it will be at least 2-3 weeks

Have to say I am staggered beth Lynch got off

But I suppose just another example of the inconsistency / stupidity of the MRO

Or perhaps it was a square up for the moronic final free paid against us...

Who knows? But she's got off and we move on

It was the Geesook players fault.  She stopped and tried to duck under the tackle forcing the tacklers momentum forward. Hardly Lynch's fault!

Woman seem to want to be treated as equals

I’m too scared to state out how many (or which ones) are fat and unfit

If an AFL player comes back unfit after preseason they are named and shamed (and won’t get selected) .. they are criticised for a lack of professionalism and some supporters (on this site) want them delisted as a result

The leftist brigade would have a field day if we started pointing out the fat ones in AFLW .. and it’s all clubs, not just Richmond ..

Get fair dinkum girls .. hit the gym and get serious .. then more potential supporters will take it seriously

There was a certain high profile recruit that we brought in (now gone), that was about as athletic as me .. I’m 120kg and cactus after a 2km walk

Watching far arsed unfit woman chasing a bit of leather around is a bad look for the sport

Thank you.

Its laughable that competition if in fact you can call it that. Dani Laidley would run rings around some of them, even in "her" condition.

Eilish Sheerin (Richmond, pronounced 'Aay-lish')

Possibly the most remarkable debut of the round, the 29-year-old shone in a rebounding role for the Tigers. Recruited from AFL Sydney team Inner West Magpies, Sheerin suffered a torn ACL in 2019, missing out on any potential contract offer from GWS for 2020. Picking up six AFLCA votes on debut, Sheerin recorded 19 disposals, 17 contested possessions and 17 intercepts against Geelong.

And for one stupid free kick those votes would have been totally different

Get your point

But based on how the MRO has operated this season and how they've adjudicated those sort of incidents I qm genuinely surprised she got off

The Geesook coach should have given the 5 votes to the ump that gifted them the game
