Who should we model our game plan and list on?

Well there's a good chance one of those clubs will increase by 1 this year
I understand why people like the way Collingwood play, but its also the reason they never get anywhere
Given there's been 6 different premiers in the past 6 years (and will possibly be 7 in 7) and 11 different premiers in the past 14 years, makes it hard to nominate a even a couple of teams to model yourself against.

Personally I hope we don't follow the leader, but innovate and raise the bar to a new level, but I guess we should probably just take baby steps for now and focus on the basics.

Yep, agree 100%.  Who did the Swans model their game plan on?  Who did West Coast model their game plan on?  Who did Geelong model their game plan on?  Who did Hawthorn model their game plan on?  Let's get the basics right first and become competitive, then work on a game plan that best fits our playing list, our coaching group, our attitude and our goals.

Hawthorn, St Kilda and Sydney all have very similar game plans, they just blur the positions behind the pack that they stand.  They are all some form of defensive rolling zone behind the pack.

St Kilda forms more of a line than hawthorn and Sydneys is closer to the pack but they are basically the same for my money.

Are you talking this year? My point is that every year the team that has won it has something unique and almost 'cutting edge' about it. Something different and something hard to counter. I don't say we follow in someones footsteps but we create our own. Just my thoughts.

Sydney's premiership-winning gameplan was quite different to what it has evolved into today.  Back then it was based around pressure at the stoppages and then releasing very quickly when possession was won.  They flooded back and ran forward - nowadays the flood or zone stays behind the ball at all times.  It was different to anyone else at the time.  I think the 'rolling zones' have probably evolved from that concept in some way but each team had a gameplan that was unique in it's successful period - maybe pulling parts of a few others together but unique in the package.  We will never be successful if we chase the pack - leaders win premierships.
