Forgetting trends, what team of the last 20 years should we try and emulate?

The obvious answer is - none, create our own! - but all great sides start with the end in mind and build upon the success of the past so what why should we go?

I like Adelaide.

Total professionalism, disciplined and (I think that because Adelaide is a somewhat undesirable city to move to) they don't look to trade picks for players too often.

Brisbane was a hard at it, uncompromising unit who had a very direct game plan which they are still using today. The fact that they are still exceeding expectations by playing the same 'head over the footy'/ 'get your own ball' style is worth noting.

Geelong was the bench mark but is St Kilda surpassed them? What has changed to make the Saints such a good team?

Even Collingwood have a style to emulate considering how far they have got given the lack of talent in their list.

It will be a long time before we ensemble a list the quality of a Geelong or a St kilda.

As painful as it is to say, the team I would like us to emulate the most is Collingwood.

They epitomize the saying " a champion team can beat a team of champions " (well almost...but they have had their moments against Geelong)

Im no expert but they do seem to be a very disciplined team that plays as a unit,excels at all the 1%ers and extracts every bit of talent from out of their list.

Go defensive, tackle tackle and more tackling.  Build your list from your back line first.  Put talent (and by that I mean high draft picks) in your back line, people who have vision and can kick accurately.

Average team but always thereabouts. Tough as nails most weeks.

They tackle and protect their mates like no other team but maybe the Cats.

Last time i checked they sat 3rd on the ladder in terms of flags won so not sure what you base the fact that they dont win premierships.

Ill take 14 flags and finals most years any day its obvious you dont see that as being a successful side. Strange!!!

I'd model our game on the Bulldogs team from the early 2000's. Pacy, slim, girl like outside midfielders with an aversion to tackling and being tackled. Most probably scream like Homer Simpson when faced with the prospect of body contact.

I only said Collingwood because I was trying to be realistic on where our list is at.Hopefully at this years draft we can unearth some real talent and we can reassess.

If I can live in fantasy land I would say lets emulate Brisbane circa 2001.....3 Premierships on the trot please.
