Hart was involved in a head-on collision on Sunday on the East Derwent Highway.
Tasmanian police released a statement, detailing: “The driver of the Nissan, a 73-year-old man from Oakdowns was taken to hospital with serious injuries.”
The driver of the other car, and their passenger, were also transported to hospital with serious injuries.
Hart is a revered figure, selected in the AFL’s Team of the Century and named a Legend of the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
He won four premierships with Richmond, lifting the cup as captain twice, and earned two best-and-fairest awards.
Police investigating“At 11.15am today, a blue Nissan Dualis was travelling east on the East Derwent Highway, Risdon Cove, when it collided head on with a blue MCG hatch being driven in the opposite direction,” Tasmania Police said.
“The driver of the Nissan, a 73-year-old man from Oakdowns, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
“The driver of the MG hatch, a 77-year-old man from Bellerive and his passenger, a 74-year-old woman also from Bellerive, were also transported to hospital with serious injuries.
“The crash occurred 500 metres east of Saundersons Road and both vehicles were extensively damaged.
“Crash Investigation Services attended and are investigating the cause of the crash.
“The road was closed for about four hours.”
