LISTEN | New @Richmond_FC recruit Kaelan Bradtke on...

- His emotions when he found out he'd been picked up by the Tigers
- His strengths as a player
- What it's been like training at Richmond
- His aspirations for the year
- And more!

Bradtke left no stone unturned in his quest to convince Richmond to select him.

“The fact it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and something that I’d probably never get again, I just thought, I’ll go as hard as I can, hell for leather, for however long I’m there for, hopefully make a good impression, and that’s enough to swing it my way. And, luckily enough, it did go my way,” Bradtke said on SEN.

“It was intimidating, but that said, the culture at Richmond is so good.

“There are no egos or anything. Everyone’s welcoming and want to get to know you and help you become better as a footballer.

“They’ve been awesome with how welcoming they’ve been. So, it was kind of easy to walk in and feel comfortable within the first couple of weeks of it.”

Bradtke outlined the football attributes he believes will benefit him in his shot at AFL football.

“I feel I’ve got good aerial power, I’m good below my hips, and agile and versatile . . . I feel like I can bring a bit of dynamic power,” he said.

“I mainly like to hit up at the footy, hold space, try and impact the scoreboard, and bring others into the game.

“It doesn’t always have to be about kicking goals, it can just be getting the other forwards involved as well, which I like doing.”

Bradtke’s aspirations for the 2023 season are straightforward.

“Just to continually improve, day in, day out,” he said

“Hopefully that leads to more opportunities, whether that be playing a senior game, or just playing good, consistent footy and playing my role for Richmond.

Bradtke will wear the No. 37 guernsey in his debut season with the Tigers.

Richmond has informed rookie Kaelan Bradtke that he will not be offered a contract for the 2024 AFL season.

Bradtke, 22, officially joined the Club in February this year as part of the AFL’s Supplemental Selection Period.

The key forward started the season with a five-goal haul against the Northern Bullants and two against Coburg in the opening rounds before a broken hand ruled him out for a month.

Bradtke finished the season with 24 goals from 16 VFL appearances. He did not play a game at senior level.

Richmond General Manager, Football Talent Blair Hartley thanked Bradtke for his efforts across the year.

“We would like to thank Kaelan for his dedication to our football program since he began training with us late last year,” he said.

“Kaelan gave us everything he could, but unfortunately, at this time of year, we need to make changes to our list. We wish him all the best for his future pursuits on and off the field.”

Shame in lots of ways.
Obviously not up to the level or they would not have cut him so quickly.
I liked a lot of what bits i saw of him before we drafted him. A lesson there any one can look good in highlight reels and small bits and pieces.
Still nothing ventured nothing gained and basically nothing lost.  think this is what we need to do a lot more of. Get em in and at least try em out.
They don't work out we move on quickly like we have here and try again.
We do need to do our fair share of this with talls.

Is it really kosher to be axing players before a new coach? What if the new coach sees something in Kaelan ?

Hopefully they watched Sellers in the last H&A game and thought "yeah we'll get him instead"... :shh
