Some stats from the Herald-Sun

Richmond-listed forward Jay Schulz was the main focal point in attack for the Tigers with five majors, while Kayne Pettifer kicked two from 19 touches.

Andrew Raines and Greg Tivendale played in the midfield and had 50 disposals between them.

"They ran much harder than us and they won every contested ball or 50-50 and they capitalised on our errors," Coburg coach Jade Rawlings said.

Rawlings said he was pleased with Carnell's job on Dal Santo.

"We put a lot of time into Nick Dal Santo and we were really happy with his game," Rawlings said.

"Carnell is showing every week that he can play on the good players."

Rawlings also rebutted talk a line had been drawn through the names of veterans Tivendale and Pettifer at Richmond.

"I'm on the match committee and I know we haven't put a line through any player," Rawlings said.

"I'm sure they will fight back."

Match Report Vs. Casey Scorpions
coburgtigers.com.au

Coburg faced up against the Casey Scorpions this week at ABD Group Stadium. Although the Burgers were the home side Casey were moderate favourites heading into the match as they sat second on the ladder with only three losses. A large crowd attended, as it was well reported in the media that St Kilda guns Nick Dal Santo and Steven Milne were playing for Casey.

As it turned out the Scorpions were a much classier outfit on the day, running away with a fifty-three point victory.

Coburg were competitive in the first term, but Casey got on top late in the quarter and converted that onto the scoreboard creating a handy three goal buffer at the first change. Angus Graham started well and played a solid game in the ruck and around the ground, while James Keogh saw a lot of the ball in only his third game for the senior side.

¼ Time: Coburg 2.3 (15)   Casey 5.3 (33)

With Cleve Hughes elevated into the Richmond side, (Coburg’s chief goal kicker for the past month), the Burgers had to change their forward line set up. Cleve Hughes actually played a fantastic game for Richmond booting 6 goals in their tight win over Port Adelaide.

After playing the majority of the season with Coburg in the back half, Jay Schultz moved up forward again, and with great success. The big man was strong in the air and finished the game with five majors, and was one of the Burgers best players.

However the second term was one of Coburg’s worst for the year. They only managed to score two goals, whilst the Scorpions helped themselves to another seven majors and a very healthy fifty point lead at the main break.

½ Time: Coburg 4.5 (29)   Casey 12.7 (79)

Although the Coburg side were faced with a hefty margin running out at half time, the boys fought back well in the third term kicking six goals. They could have closed the gap even more at three quarter time had it not been for inaccurate kicking. Jarrod Silvester got on top of his opponent and cleared the ball well out of the backline.

Glen Carrick, playing in only his fourth game for the season, was fantastic for the Burgers. The little fella was often found at the bottom of a pack and was Coburg’s best player on the day. He was well supported by Nick Carnell who was his usual classy self, with a stack of clearances and tackles.

¾ Time: Coburg 10.12 (72)   Casey 16.10 (106)

There was still a little sniff of a victory in the final term for the Burgers, but the Scorpions were quick to put an end to that as they finished the final term strongly with seven goals. Jay Schultz kicked 5 majors for the match, while Kayne Pettifer and Cam Howat added a couple of goals each as well.

One major positive to take out of the game was Coburg matched it with the Scorpions in the second half, only losing it by three points.

The Burgers still sit in sixth spot on the ladder with a very healthy percentage of 114% and face Frankston at Frankston Oval this Sunday beginning at 2pm; the reserves start at 11.10am.

Coburg Tigers     2.3  4.5 10.12 14.14 (98)
Casey Scorpions 5.3 12.7 16.10 23.13 (151)

Goal Kickers: J. Schulz 5, K. Pettifer 2, C. Howat 2, G. Tivendale, N. Carnell, A. Horne, D. Connors, C. Collard

Best Players: G. Carrick, N. Carnell, J. Schulz, A. Graham, J. Silvester, J. Keogh

RESERVES

The reserves continued on with their excellent season with a very comfortable 126 point win over Casey.

After another very inaccurate first quarter the Coburg boys really straightened up in the second term booting eight straight goals without a miss. The result was clearly beyond doubt after half time and the Burgers went on to record another hundred point thumping, this time winning by 126 points.

Jake De Sousa and Joe Gazzo kicked ten goals between them, while Fort Caruso was best on ground also contributing four goals.

Coburg Tigers     5.9 13.9 19.15 25.17 (167)
Casey Scorpions 0.0   2.2   4.2    6.5 (41)

Goal Kickers: J. De Sousa 5, J. Gazzo 5, F. Caruso 4, C. Corr 3, D. Putt 2, R. Jordon 2, S. Foster, D. Rayson, T. Abdallah, J. Jones

Best Players: F. Caruso, C. Corr, T. Simpson, A. Collins, J. De Sousa, J. Gazzo

That is a ridiculous reserves side with Collins, Gazzo and Fort all playing ressies.

No wonder they're smashing everyone who gets in their way.

Agree TA and it's not as if Coburg seniors are winning and keeping them out either. Collins shouldn't be playing VFL ressies.

Who's spot are they going to take?

Its hard when many of these players play the same position, you can only have so many of the same type in the team.

Joey Gazzo was playing his first game back from injury also.

Collins is still very much 50/50 in regards to if he will make it or not IMO.

But TFL, Collins had been in the Coburg side for most of the year. He was also showing some promising signs playing consecutive weeks in the Coburg seniors until they made him an emergency for Richmond where he ended up not playing at all. Then IIRC Coburg had a bye the following week and they brought him back via the VFL ressies and then to the VFL seniors. Collo might have had a poor game against Tassie but the selection process with him over the last month hasn't helped his confidence IMO.

As for who he comes in for - I would've thought a 19 year old on our senior list would get preference over a 23 y.o. 'rookie' in his 3rd year who hasn't progressed from VFL level and more than likely will be cut this year.

Some stats from Rawlings in EOTT:

Connors -  24 disposals, 11 marks, 3 tackles
Howat - 27 disposals, 2 goals
Petts - 19 disposals, 2 goals. Committed his body
Graham - best game for the year.
Schulz - Coburg's best player with 5.2.
