Balme "fits the criteria" for vacant coaching job: LyonBy James Cusak

23 July 2019SEN Breakfast co-host Garry Lyon has suggested Neil Blame as a left field candidate for the three vacant head coaching positions.
With the success of Chris Fagan at the Brisbane Lions, Lyon believes Balme would be the right fit if he was surrounded with the right people.
“He’s got the most magnificent manner about him, he’s coached his own team, he’s at the stage where he can develop a group without worrying too much about what happens beyond the next few years,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.
“Neil Balme fits the criteria.”
Balme, 67, currently the General Manager of Football at Richmond oversaw the Tigers 37-year premiership drought in his first year.
“Him (Balme) as the figure head coach with a younger group of assistants … would be magnificent in my opinion.”
“With the right group around him he could fit all of them (St Kilda, North Melbourne and Carlton).”
Balme previously coached Melbourne from 1993-1997 with 41 wins and 57 loss record.
Lyon went on to say he doesn’t believe Balme would want to be a senior coach, suggesting that it may be 10 years too late.
