We hardly participated in anything off season so it has to come from within. We wont be winning another premiership if it is basically the same team going around.
It was similar in 2019 so we really need the younger blokes to step up.
As far as evolution goes we are stagnating apart from the odd player or two.We really do need the team to evolve i would love to see some of the role players and fmd there is a lot of them replaced by more skillful better rounded players.

Even our B/F Short. He is excruciatingly outside who performs a role he is never going to take a game by the throat he relies on his team mates to a very large degree to impact games.

We really need the next Martin or Cotchin Riewoldt to start demanding games but the question really is do we even have em on the list.

We will be doing well to get another Martin. Rare beast.

We have Bolton Balta and Bolton who will be long term stars

Graham and Rioli are 23 Castagna and Soldo 25 next year

Yet to be proven but the group coming through will provide the bulk of the generational change. Ross has already shown signs. RCD, Martyn, Ralpsmith and Dow all have talent and yes too early to be sure. Same with Naish and Cumberland

Then at the end of next year we have 6 picks in first 3 rounds where we will reset the playing list.

Then need to take advantage of free agency

Not many premierships can rebuild on the run but reckon we have already started on this path.

It’s just the 22 from the grand final last year. Given the 22 players from the previous years premiership have never played together before in AFL history something tells me we won’t see that lineup again.

To be fair it’s probably better that there are some changes to keep the team improving and keep everyone on their toes with regards to selection.

I'd like to see Soldo back but he will be lucky to play at all.

No faith in Chol.

Samson too green.

So will CCJ get some ruck duties? If not then Balta will play 2nd ruck and Broad will go back as 3rd tall.

You’d hope the younger players like CCJ, RCD, Ross and Stack (if he gets his off field stuff right) are putting pressure on the 22 from the grand final for spots.

Hmm they have gone with last yrs team. Assuming there will be three or four changes, well im hoping there is, as that should mean we continue to evolve and younger players are stepping up.

For me the player most in the gun is Houli at 32 yrs of age. we have  outside running half backs one being the current B/F in Short. Baker, Stack, Pickett can all play there.

Historically We have also played the four tall defenders  Grimes, Balta, Broad, Astbury and (Rance before retirement)at every opportunity it aint about to change imo.
Throw in Vlastuin who is an automatic lock down back it leaves just the one or two running spots. Short has just won a b/f and would be a lock. the back 6 is sorted imo.

Reckon we have tried to play two ruckmen whenever possible. With Soldo injured i think it is time to put games into CCJ He has to be ready by now and he has to be a better option than Chol.

This is a big if but IF RCD is right to go, then imo the logical thing to do is play him fwd rotating with the other bull in Martin. They were putting work into him in this role last yr and at 190cm plus? he actually provides a third tall option up fwd.
Really hope this kid can take the steps needed to make it. A tall mid /fwd who is explosive around stoppages sounds good to me.

Dow i chose to play on a wing where all he has to do is run hard both ways and get on the end of some ball. Wing/running back  imo  good places to play the kids at the start of their careers being primarily outlet roles.

Fwd line is Balanced with three players to play a big role as part of midfield rotations in Bolton, Edwards, RC-D
Along with pressure fwd Castagna and the two key fwds.

The bench is an extended one making up the 30 players most likely to get games. It is loaded with midfielders and a second ruckman who could play fwd as well.

B/ Grimes - Astbury - Vlastuin.

HB/ Short - Balta - Broad

C/ Dow# - Martin* - Pickett/McIntosh#

R/ Nankervis - Cotchin# - Prestia#

HF/ Bolton# - Riewoldt - Edwards#

F/ Castagna - Lynch - Collier-Dawkins*

Int from/  Lambert# - Ross# - CC-J - Graham# - Baker - Caddy# - Ralphsmith# - Stack -Naish - Rioli

If they are ready to go and can take the next step then i hope we prioritse the likes of Dow, RC-D, Ross and CC-J.

YOUR CLUB'S BEST 22 HEADING INTO THE 2021 SEASON

Andrew Slevison
SEN
26 February

RICHMOND

FB: Dylan Grimes / David Astbury / Nick Vlastuin
HB: Jayden Short / Noah Balta / Bachar Houli
C: Kamdyn McIntosh / Dustin Martin / Marlion Pickett
HF: Shane Edwards / Jack Riewoldt / Kane Lambert
FF: Jason Castagna / Tom Lynch / Shai Bolton
FOL: Toby Nankervis / Trent Cotchin / Dion Prestia
INT: Liam Baker / Daniel Rioli / Jack Graham / Nathan Broad

On the brink: Jake Aarts, Josh Caddy, Jack Ross, Thomson Dow, Mabior Chol, Patrick Naish, Riley Collier-Dawkins, Callum Coleman-Jones

Injured: Ivan Soldo

It is a tricky task to break up a premiership side on paper, even if that particular team has never played together again.

However, all things going well, the Tigers could achieve a first by having the same 22 run out early in the 2021 season, provided Dion Prestia and Bachar Houli overcome soft tissue injuries.

While there is plenty of depth at Tigerland, it’s difficult to pin down exactly who will push through.

Jake Aarts was unlucky to miss the bulk of the finals series and subsequent flag and will be intent on breaking into Damien Hardwick’s side again. Young midfield trio Thomson Dow, Patrick Naish and Riley Collier-Dawkins will all be pushing for selection and there are a few fringe players like Josh Caddy, Jack Ross and Mabior Chol constantly on the brink.

There is plenty of quality underneath the back-to-back champions which will make Hardwick’s job tough.
