The pies took Ben Reid with pick 8.
Personally was a huge fan of his, but Riewoldt is seriously winning me over as the better player.
Since the start of the season Reid has kinda flat-lined but Riewoldt is frequently performing well and starring at the Burgers
At the draft night last year Ben Reid was used as an example of how we assess potential recruits. The feeling of Francis Jackson was that the boy had talent but was young and very skinny. They then showed stas of various current AFL players that had similar height and weight measurements and the comment was that Reid would be worth a chance but it would take at least three years to build him up enough. Question was could Richmond afford to take on someone who would take that long given our current list
Umm i don't underatand , don't most young players take 3 or more years to reach their peak????
Perhaps i am missing something but it seems strange not to consider this reid character due to him taking a few years to develop..
As for the deal , looks like we might end up doing ok out of it but that is at least partly due to luck and this type of deal
should not be repeated..
Harry in relation to using our first round pick where there would be other guys - like Riewoldt - who could play AFL in their first year. So the question was should we go for someone with our first round pick who can play this year against someone who wouldn't be ready for at least three years.
