My overwhelming reaction to seeing Sam on television was to ask "what the hell has he done to his face?"

The op will slow him down. Many, but certainly not all, prostate procedures are worse than the problem - lots of potential side effects.

As for hating somebody you only know from the media - that's surely not possible?

Good luck to him - he's a great Melbourne character.

Anyone who has seen someone go through cancer, even those where the treatment is successful, wouldn't wish it on anyone. Chemo and Radiotherapy ain't pleasant (understatement).

Hey,
If u cant stand someone, why wish them all the best
when really u dont DGAF???

Why not just say"Fugim"

I dont understand.

I wish him the best of luck.

It goes something like this ... I have had a number of family members and friends fight and survive and not survive cancer.

Having seen first hand what they went through I would wish anyone suffering from this terrible disease (in that I mean all forms of cancer) all the best because it is a a terrible thing to fight.

As for hating somebody you only know from the media - that's surely not possible?

I never said I hated him - don't know him.

But I cannot stand the arrogant persona he that shows the world - the one he brings to his street talk segment when he appears to target people who should just be left in peace so he can get a few laughs. He is the reason I dont watch the Footy show.

There's a lot of people in life we say we cannot stand simply because of the way they present in the media or they way they present to the community - politicians are the perfect example but that doesn't mean we hate them.

A little of topic but i work in the funeral industry and seeing what cancer does not only to the person affected but everyone who watches them "fade away" is devistating and not something i would wish on anyone, even a person i hate (sure a quick car accident or similar maybe but not cancer)

All the best to Sam, i hope he makes a full and quick recovery.

l had a colon check 11 years ago & was found to have bowel cancer
l had a operation & it was removed & treated & l'm one of those who is still around to have my say
no matter how much you hate a person like Sammy cancer is a very serious disease in us all & can be triggered at any time
its like a bomb waitng to go off without a timer
it can strike you young & can strike you when older
it can kill you within weeks of being found or it can progress through your body slowly killing you off to a mere boneless shadow
which in the meantime your family is being mentaly tortured because they cannot help you or save you & watch you slowly die
l was bleeding which prompt me to get a checkup it may have added years to my life & my prostate was given the ok but was told to have checkup every 2 years because it can regrow
l recommend every male to be checked when around 25.  there is nothing wrong with getting a check up no matter how much pride you have it should be done.
only you, your doctor & a few nurses will know

l hope every Richmond supporter & all supporters in general support this cause at Richmond vs Collingwood

The media coverage will get more people to take notice and get checked.
That will save lives wont it.
Heard a few good stories about Sam, even though he comes accross as a jerk sometimes don't be totally fooled.
32 people and family and friends a day go through this, just for this disease alone - No wonder I have no faith.
Good luck to the man .... and the rest

TV wait as Sam Newman recovers
March 12, 2008

THE Footy Show producers won't know until Thursday night whether funny man Sam Newman will be fit enough to join the rest of the crew for this week's return.

Newman, 62, had an operation for prostate cancer last week and is expected to make a full recovery.

Colleague and friend Garry Lyon said Newman's return would depend on how he felt.

"If it takes him one week, two weeks or six weeks before he feels all right to come back, then that's a small price to pay for the good news we've got," Lyon said.

"Knowing Sam as well as I do, now that everything is OK obviously, this will provide him with endless material.

"We can't wait to get him back on the set."
