Disappointing they way it's being sensationalised in the media

Also seems there is going to be a 60 minutes story about it on Sunday :o

Call me cynical but it sounds a bit too ratings driven by Ch 9 to me.

Sam Newman fights prostate cancer
Sam Edmund
March 06, 2008

TV star and football great Sam Newman is facing the fight of his life after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Newman, 62,  underwent four hours of surgery at the Epworth Hospital yesterday.

He now faces an anxious wait until the weekend before doctors can tell him if the cancer has spread.

Newman learned of his condition just three weeks ago, revealing it only to family and a few friends.

"There's nothing you can do about it," Newman said before undergoing the radical prostatectomy.

"We're going to ask probably the best man in the business to do something about it . . . we're just going to have to wait and see what he says."

Newman told Channel 9 he was facing his battle stoically.

"It does go through your mind - where is it all going to end? - and we don't want to make this too dramatic," he said.

Prostate cancer claims more than 2600 Australian men a year and afflicts men in the same numbers as breast cancer claims women.

Melbourne star Robbie Flower survived a battle with the cancer in 2001.

Footscray legend Ted Whitten died in 1995 at the age of 62 as a result of prostate cancer.

Leading urologist Dr Laurence Harewood was confident Newman could beat the cancer, with the star's fitness a key factor in his fight.

"Cancer is a scary word but at least we are in with a chance with Sam," he said.

It's exploitation but he's allowing himself to be exploited in this case.
If he's doing it in order to get men to go and have a check-up, then it's okay in my book.  It just highlights that doesnt' matter who you are you can get this cancer.

I know most of you ppl here are pretty young, but go and have regular check-ups okay  :thumbsup

IDGAF!

The number of perpetually mentally ill people he's taken advantage of for his street talk segment - perhaps a street talk with Sammy in his hospital bed drugged to the gills would be a laugh too.

Prostate Cancer. Very treatable with a very high survival rate as long as it has been detected early. My father recently underwent the same procedure a couple of months ago and has recovered well.

I wish him well and a swift and successful recovery, but I don't see why his ugly mug is in my face on both the Age and Herald Sun web sites.

Nice double negative.  ;)

But seriously just because you cant stand someone doesnt mean you wish cancer on them.

I wouldnt be too sure about that.
Not sure they'd wish him cancer, but I think anyone with the initials "DF" might have a few wishing him some kind of pain lol

it does actually.

You all dont dislike Sammy as much as you say.(aother double 4 ya)

When u really hate a person,u probably would wish something like that on them.

The main reason u dont actually say it is because you're scared of some unknown Karmic force
returning the favor...so really...you wish someone u hated, Cancer.
