Send Off Rule - Yeah or Neah?

KB wants a send-off rule introduced........ Your thoughts?

------------------------------------
Sending-off rule is long overdue, says KB
Michael Gleeson | April 16, 2008

FORMER AFL games record-holder and laws of the game committee member Kevin Bartlett has called for the introduction of a send-off rule, saying one is long overdue in football.

Bartlett said umpires should, at the very least, have the option of a send-off available to them for the most blatant outrages on the football field.

A long-time advocate for a dismissal option, he did not specify whether the send-off rule he envisaged should be a short-term sin-bin or a form of red card where the player does not return for the remainder of the match.

Bartlett believes that such an option would, in practice, only be used sparingly and in the most extreme, clear cases — such as Barry Hall's hit on Brent Staker.

No, because the umps will find some way to balls it up and before you now it a player will be sent of every second week.

They will allways be white maggots to me

one of the biggest training drills used in football is the boxing technic be it on a heavy bag or the players wearing the pads & gloves
its a wonder why there is so much hitting its breed into the players in training ( this for hand speed not for fighting  ;D )

people say soccer has the send off rule, yes it does but Football is a more intense & physical game that if you send a player off will give the other side a huge advantage & this will only punish really the players left short on the ground cause they must work harder to cover the extra player so this in turn punishes the whole side & every player may well have done the crime. l,m totally against it.

Its like say a domestic voilence charge, the husband assults the wife badly (which l know of a case but its not me  ;D )
The police charge him for the assault & takes it too court & the judge fines the husband $2000 & community work & he does not have employment. heres the catch  :o The wife & husband are still together & she is the worker & bringing in the money & who is paying the fine  ??? yep she is, so she has been punished twice for a assault she never committed l mean wtf is that all about.
Now they fight verbally over being short of money & struggling cause she paying his fine & his saying she caused it & shes saying he did it which she is in the right but she is being punished again by verbal abuse

So red carding a player sending him off the ground is like punishing the whole team, it just dont sit with me at all because the other players are being punished for something they had no direct link & no control over

l attend alot of seminars on football & have stood up & contested against the red card & after giving them that scenario alot of players, coaches & some police (who attend to give laws on social clubs which is common) have said, hey thats a very good point you made about the husband & wife

The red card is & has been in use in some leagues for a few years now & l seen it mis-used on many occassins when the clubs have a umpire from each club & its not a good idea. l also seen it mis-used in games with umpires represented by the umpires league but very rare maybe 5 cases over the years

We donot need another anvenue to destroy the game at league level, Trail by video was brought in for such behind play assaults & bans & hefty fines are by far enough. Some reoffending drunk drivers or capable drivers dont get fines like that its unjustified football fines another thing l'm against but thats another story itself. Time for football cheers

This needs to be left alone on so many levels im not sur where to start.

Being involved in Rugby i witnessed first hand what an out of control ref on a power trip can do when a player was injured from an illegal tackle which caused a scuffle to brake out with a few boys "under 16's infact which only proves that he coulndt control the game". When the trainer ran on to help the injured player he was red carded simply because he had run on at the wrong time, the rule book states that at junior level that a first aid officer is allowed onto the pitch at ANY required time.

As it turns out the player in trouble had fractured his T7 vertebrae.

On this occasion the trainer ignored the ref and was subsequently put on report. Luckily after the report from the ref and reports from both teams (who said the same thing that it was a pitiful red card) as well as quite some time spent on the phone, the VRU decided not to cary it any farther.

So what did the red card or "send off rule" achieve? nothing but a f___ing head ache as it all ended up with the VRU deciding what was going to happen, as it now is wth AFL and should stay that way....

The umpires have enough trouble getting things right now lets not give any extra to f____ up.
