Seemed like a huge day, thanks for all the updates guys  :thumbsup

JON has a new number (22?) and is being played off the HFF rather than out of defence this year. Sounded like this was his final chance. TW also gave the impression that Hughes was on his last chance too.

Interesting, given our back line is fairly strong with a few decent palyers in the wings, there probably is more opportunity for a position in the forward line.  I haven't seem JON play too much so not sure how he will go there though.

I'm not too sure myself how he would handle this position. I always imagine forwards to be quick and elusive but JON does not fit this mould. Perhaps they intend to use him to deliver the ball into the F50 or kick for goal around the 50m arc? When you compare him to players like Lids, Cousins, Cotchin or even McMahon (who I most feel he is like) he just doesn't rate in this position/role.

He'll need to do something quick because the writing is on the wall for our 2005 No 8 pick.... :-[

Cheers for the great report Stripes  :cheers.

Perhaps they are hoping with the ball delivered to him it will play to what few strengths JON has - very good hands. He was practising his marking on the lead at training. He also won't have to think too much or set up the play playing up forward. Play as a tall midsized forward and if he marks it in range go for goal. JON normally works hard too so maybe they're after some forward defensive pressure as well. That's the only reasons I can think of as to why he'll be playing up forward.

He played as a hit up, leading forward for the 2nd half of last year for Coburg - and did that role very well.

I noticed even if he didn't take the mark, he'd create the contest and then apply very good defensive pressure... it is a rile that suits him IHMO
