OK now that that is sorted where will he play?

I think I would like to see play out of the goal square.  If we are building a new team first mentality then I think the less out of general play for Richo the better for the team.

Never saw him as a stuff Chuck but I suppose he could teach young Will a thing or 2.   ;D

Richo was/is on Thursday Night Live tonight on ONE HD. They showed clips of his best goals, marks, hairstyles and dummy spits to stitch him up lol. You've got to love the big fella  ;D.

Richo said he had scans on the hammy on Monday and everything looked okay. So if the hammy holds up he hopes to play on next year.

Exactly what he said last night. His attention is to play on  :thumbsup

Only difference he described the scan showing the hamstring tendon as being "strong at the moment"

Coach, club, manager tell Richo he's wanted for season No.18 (Herald-Sun)

Coach, club, manager tell Matthew Richardson he's wanted for season No.18
Mike Sheahan | September 18, 2009

THE four key figures in Matthew Richardson's football future are singing to the same tune - roll on 2010.

The player, his manager Ricky Nixon, Richmond's general manager of football Craig Cameron and new coach Damien Hardwick all are preparing for season No. 18 for the star forward.

Richo said: "I'm pretty confident that I'll be right, and I'm really looking forward to it."

Cameron said: "We'd like him to play if he thinks he can play. Damien's very happy for him to play on."

Nixon: "At this point I'm very confident he'll play on and play well, contribute well."

The comments provide the clearest indication yet of the thoughts of those who will make the most keenly awaited decision from Punt Rd.

Both player and club are optimistic after recent scans showed he is recovering as hoped from a major hamstring problem. He also is progressing smoothly from minor knee surgery.

Nixon said: "Scans on the hamstring have shown everything is repairing as it should. Things are going really well.
"There's no doubt the results of the scans were confidence-building. The knee's fine after a tidy-up."

Richardson, who will turn 35 in March, said: "Craig and Damien have said they want me to go on; that's been the clear message, which is good.

"I haven't run for six weeks; I'm allowed to start back next week.

"I want 6-8 weeks' running in my legs to see how I feel, how the body stands up. If I feel good, I'll go on.

"I'd like to play on; I'm confident I can, but I don't want to make the big call until I see how my body goes.

"I don't have to make a rushed decision because I'm on the veterans' list and not taking a place on the primary list."

Cameron said: "We've left it in Matthew's court.

"We're happy for him to play next year and we're happy to offer him a contract if he thinks he can play more than half the games.

"No one wants him to get to five rounds and then it's all over for him.

"We're happy to give him a time-frame that doesn't put him under any pressure.

"We'll talk at the end of September and, if he wants more time, then the end of October.

"The issues are whether his body will stand up and whether he is happy to go through another pre-season.

"We're not making the call on him; we're giving him the rein to make the call."

Nixon said he had his player's long-term best interests at heart.

"I'm red-hot on the subject of players and retirement. If I think you're finished, I'll tell you.

"The discussions that I've held with Matthew have been along the lines that he doesn't want to disappoint people with his performances next year that might be below his standard if his body isn't in the right shape.

"He'll be ready to make a decision November-early December.

"Players play for different reasons. This bloke plays footy for one reason and one reason only - because he loves playing.

"He'll know the right time. I remember saying to Michael Voss, 'You'll wake up one day and you won't want to go to training'.

"He rang me one day in June (2006) and said, 'Guess what? I don't want to go to training'."

Richardson's hamstring problem kept him to six games this year for a career total of 282. He has kicked 800 goals.

Ch 7 news tonight said Richo is playing on.

Richo to play on with Tigers in 2010
September 18, 2009 - 2:44PM

Richmond favourite son Matthew Richardson has a chance to join three Tiger legends in the AFL's 300-game club after confirming he will play on next season.

The 34-year-old, the league's oldest current player, was restricted to just six games this season by a major hamstring injury.

But, after receiving the strong support of new coach Damien Hardwick to play on, Richardson will continue into an 18th season.

"I feel pretty good and I'm really looking forward to getting back running, so I'm pretty sure everything will work out all right," he told radio station Vega FM on Friday.

Asked if that meant he would play on next season, he said: "Yes".

Richardson has led the Tigers' goal-kicking 13 times in the past 17 seasons, winning the club's best and fairest award in 2007.

He also had a stellar 2008, finishing third in the Brownlow Medal count, before having this year derailed by injury.

The fan favourite currently sits on 282 AFL matches, sixth on Richmond's all-time list, although that includes just three finals, all in 2001.

If he can notch 18 more games next season, he will join rare company, with Kevin Bartlett, Jack Dyer and Francis Bourke the Tigers' only 300-gamers.

It would be a remarkable achievement for a player who was cut down by serious injuries in 1995 and 2000 and also missed most of this season.

Richardson's decision means he will be one of three players aged 30-plus at Tigerland next year, along with Ben Cousins and Troy Simmonds.

Joel Bowden, Kane Johnson and Nathan Brown have all departed.

Glad the Big Fella is going on but would have understood if he retired on his own trms or was retired by Dimma. Good luck Big Fella. Hope you get to 300. :cheers

I hope that we have got a good rookie on standby, as I think we will need it.
Cause I don't think that Richo will make the full year.
And I think he has done this for him, and not for the club.
Personaly I would rather have seen him retire on a high note.
If he breaks down again there will be a lot of I told you so's.

And I think he has done this for him, and not for the club.

Totally disagree

If the CLub had said "time to go Richo" he would go no questions, no tantrums he even said that himself.

And considering what he has done for the Club over the years not just on it but more importantly off it I don't doubt him for a second - he loves the RFC

Glad he is going on but it is not certain he will play.
Hammies could go nasty and at his age that will signal the end. Worth a punt though in my view.

Played only 6 games for the year yet still was the highest brownlow vote getter for the entire club in 2009

the 6 votes Richo got speaks volumes about our football club.

the best 2 vote getters are 34 yrs of age and a 30 year old recovering drug addict.

FFS when is someone else other than Richo going to step up.

The votes Richo got says nothing about the club because he got both his 2 x 3 votes in losses, it says plenty about Richo though.
The fact no one got more votes than him for the whole year says plenty about the club, NOT the votes Richo got.
