Tapscott is sposed to be the best kick in the draft along with Martin is he not?

"leg like a cannon"

I have concerns about a Tapscott selection. Tapscott play as a youngster in the carnival 16 months ago. I recall he kicked 4 goals in one game as a forward pocket. He was big and slow then and from viewing him afew months ago at the carnival he was big and slow again. The truth is I wouldnt be picking him with 19. I dont see him becoming a dominant midfielder, hes lack of speed will get found out on the MCG and he will get run down by opponents. Im hoping like crazy he ends up somewhere other than Punt Rd.

You could well be right Ramps but don't forget the lesson of Greg Williams.  Pace is not the only attribute you need and if he is smart, strong and skillful then he must demand serious thought.  By today's press both SA teams are keen on him and I like that he is a good long kick - along with Martin and Tambling that makes our forward line much more potent without even needing to add another player to it.

Those comparisons do not back up your argument. Picking Fiora over Pavlich does not condemn the 'best player over needs' idea.

No, you're right. Of themselves they don't. But I just remember the bad old days when I used to bail up Greg Miller at training near season's end, and plead with him to recruit some talls. And always I'd get the same response; that mids, mids, and more mids was the way to go. And all this did was create the imbalance we have on our list today, where our key defenders are all undersized,we basically have no key forwards and mostly rookie ruckmen. And still people are saying let's keep stocking up on mids, and using the old "best available" line as justification for doing so.

from memory ive seen him a couple of times, the first time was when he was first selected for SA in the carnival about 16-18 months ago. He kicked 4 goals or something from a pocket, but I remember thinking that he could become a good player but also that he looked slow, saw him again recently in the last carnival, he seemed slow again. I could be wrong, probably am wrong, he is an outstanding kick, that is undoubted, and if we pick him then we have to support him, its no longer a time to go the tank or to stick the boots in, theres no point, we need to win games, develop our young players and hopefully some come through, that being the case, if he is in a Richmond jumper tomorrow night, then I will support the selection, but the pace question will remain. I prefer others, I was hoping Sheppard but it seems hes stocks have risen over the past few weeks, Bartlett I also like but he has injury concerns and the same goes for Griffiths. Good luck to everyone at our club tomorrow, its about time we had some and hopefully the players the select can come good.

The only reason Miller made a name for himself in the AFL is by recruiting two Key forwards in Carey and Longmyer, so it seems stupid he was so adament about mids.
Thanks maaaaaaaaaaan!
If there was one player in the AFL i would love to see in a Tigers jumper it's the Big Pav, he is a star!

i don't quite like the rest of the phantom draft, too many flankers, not enough talls who can kick goals.  having say panos, temel and astbury in there would have been awesome.

it seemed like according to emma quayle 's blog, he reckons we'd get tapscott at 19 as well, that's both her and burgan saying so (about the two most accurate mock drafters out there)

although i saw an article today on the i think from SA that port and adelaide are both thinkign about tapscott, so i get a bit nervous.  oh well, we'll see tomorrow, 1 more sleep to go

In the Australian today it says Port are interested in Tapscott at 16.

Melbourne will take Ball at 18 if the two kids they are keen on are already taken.

My preferences in order for selection 19

19. 1. Brad Sheppard likely to have gone earlier
19. 2. Callum Bartlett should be available
19. 3. Ben Griffiths should be available
19. 4. Koby Stevens seem to have fallen according to the newspaper journos

19. 5. Luke Tapscott may have gone to Port Adelaide earlier
19. 6. Ryan Bastinac should be around at this pick

In my humble opinion I think Bastinac or Griffiths will go to the Tigers at 19. :thumbsup

Bastinac is very skinny!

if Griffiths was 100% he would be our pick.

i believe we should draft him anyway!

Bartlett very good left foot and takes on the game.

Tapscott good skills, genuine half-forward.

--------------------------------------------------------

Griffiths
Tapscott
Bartlett
Bastinac
Stevens

"Late mail" on the AFL site. Mids, flankers and rucks going higher. Hopefully a quality KPP slips through to 19
