Should the Richmond Cricket Club move out of Punt Rd Oval?
« on: November 19, 2009, 04:07:28 AM »
A scheduled meeting of the Moonee Valley council next month could spell the end of cricket at Windy Hill, leaving only Richmond and North Melbourne with home grounds beholden to the summer sport and unable to enjoy a full pre-season at their respective home grounds.

Could/Should the Richmond Cricket Club play away from Punt Rd and leave it for only RFC use?

Would be a good move for the Footy club not so good for the Cricket club.

Depends on where they go?

Yes RCC should move, and I reckon it is inevitable. AFL clubs need year-round access to training facilities.

It's a matter of finding a suitable venue, commensurate with the standard of Premier cricket.

I'm a fan of the tradition of the relationship. We've had some greats play for the Richmond CC the likes of Australian fast bowler Paul Rieffel and many others.

Isn't the govt providing funding for the redevelopment of Punt Rd? If so are they doing so under the assumption or proviso that the facilities are also for cricket? Are they still playing shield games there?

This is an interesting one ....

The Cricket Club are actually the ones that hold the lease with the Melbourne City Council for Punt Road not the Footy Club

The Richmond Footy Club "own" 51% of the Cricket CLub

So.....

 :thumbsup

Are you suggesting they ship the Cricket Club to Craigieburn?   ??? :-\

to play on the second oval? Not the one with the ground stand that is a Footy Only venue ... the 2nd oval isn't going to have the amenities needed for Premier Cricket

what was the point of building Craigieburn?

i thought it was because of the Cricket pitch?

so, No! stay at Punt Road, and hurry up and finish Craigieburn!

The point of Craigieburn was to enable the club to have a footy only facility to use during the pre-season that is the size of the MCG  :thumbsup

Then the cricket club should stay and footy club move to craigieburn for the pre season. What is the point of building it if we are going to kick a club off its home ground?
