If he can get back, he should play on.

Disagree. While I’m not convinced any of the young defenders we have will make it long term, for differing reasons, we’ve got Gibcus, blight, miller, young, brown with balta, broad and vlastuin there for experienced heads. That’s 8 tall/medium defenders we have on our list pre draft.

Grimesy has been a champion but has been on the decline since 2021. No shame in that but time to let the younger players sink or swim.

I’m not convinced anyone on our list will make it

I don’t blame you but I think what we all need to remember sometimes, myself included, is that some of these guys are made to look much worse then they are just because of how bad the team is atm. Surely (hopefully), some of these guys are AFL standard players in an avg-good team with a proper game plan.

I think our team is full of potential great role players like lambert was. But you need the superstars to build the team to have role players in the first place and we don’t have the superstars like dusty, cotch, Jack, rance etc. gotta hit the draft, build the team and we might find ourselves with some pretty handy players. I like Campbell, mrj, even Bauer if he can stay healthy could be a nice 3rd tall option. But certainly not convinced

Yze said a decision on three-time premiership defender Dylan Grimes’ playing future will be a “collaborative” call at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old has managed just five games in 2024 because of a back injury and underwent surgery in June.

Grimes has since had complications with the injury and spent time away from the club.

Source: 7news.

If they are seriously considering re signing Grimes as a collaborative  then they have lost the plot. This sort of talk from Yze and co  has the alarm bells ringing. It smacks of denial of where we are actually at.

If he is going to get a tap on the shoulder stop the rubbish and be honest. If not don't hide it be honest.

If as they say Rioli Baker and Bolton are keepers why would they offer Graham a contract at all, when getting into the next two or three drafts is crucial to just how long we spend in the wilderness.

What are they saying we will be right with just our first rounder and pick 21 thats how we will rebuild.
If they actually think that then i fear for how long we will spend in the wilderness under this regime.

They extended Nanks contract. What a joke. They will give Grimes another year . Plus give short a 5 year extension

Heaven forbid that they maybe allowing Dylan to announce his retirement when he wants to rather than the coach doing it.

WP, he has been out injured for months and months now. If his retirement was such a forgone conclusion then he has had ample time to announce it.

Fair call but he hasn't been at the Club. Pretty sure they mentioned there had been complications post surgery. Would think his focus would be on getting over that more than anything else

I love grimesy. Been a hell of a player and a clubman. I was hoping he could make it back for 1, hell even a few farewell games. But as soon as it became evident he was out for the rest of the season, I would have thought that woulda been that.

Has finished up

Most consistent and best defender I've seen in Richmond colours. Should have been AA at least 6 times

Thanks champion

Severely underrated until Rance retired.

Best defender in the league at his peak for sure.

Yep, better than Rance when it comes to defending an opponent easily. Rance was an all round brilliant defender, good on his man and brilliant at supporting everyone else. Grimes however beat talls, smalls, mediums, anyone...week in week out for many years.

Underrated yes
In the shadow of the greatest defender of the modern era

Could be argued we had the best two defenders in the league

But peak Rance was next level …

Have a great story involving Grimes and it sums up the top bloke he is ..

A mate of mine was having a kick at an oval in Woodend with Richmond gear on and there was a bloke running laps .. after half an hour of running laps, over walks Dylan Grimes. Dylan proceeds to kick the footy for 15 mins with the lads .. champion fella

Fair enough
Grimes had an amazing ability to cover all sizes , agree . His Charlie Cameron efforts for instance one week, and key forward the next.

Just reckon Rance the best defender I’ve seen in Richmond colours. Nice debating which is the better of two champions.
