Good height. Not enough weight. Kicking action needs alot of work.

I need to get my head around this one.

Apparently turned the AFL when the ban on steeplechase ended his career as a jockey ;D
It's that simple Spud
"I discussed (it) with my three daughters, my wife and my 82-year-old mum, because it has really affected me … If those comments … were made about one of my daughters, it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I would not have liked it at all.”

Because Westhoff has bigger development potential. Temel was always a good VFL footballer in the making, as for AFL footy, that IMHO was always problematical. I had the same thoughts on Panos.

2009 National Draft - Nick Westhoff
richmondfc.com.au

DOB: 11/5/91
Height: 197.5cm
Weight: 78.1kg
Club: West Adelaide, SANFL

Video: http://bigpondvideo.com/AFL/230220

What the recruiters say:
Nick is a key forward/ruckman who is 1st cousin of Matthew and Justin from the Port Adelaide Football Club. Nick has been a prominent member of South Australian representative basketball programs in the last 7 years, competing in the U16 and U18 National Championships.

Until the age of 12 Nick combined both Australian Rules and basketball, but chose to continue down the basketball as his main sport until the start of 2009. This year he entered the U18 Football Academy of West Adelaide, the club that has recently produced Adam Cooney and 2008 draftee Hamish Hartlett. After a break of 6 years from competitive football, Nick played 17 U18 games in the key forward posts managing to produce 39.21 on the board. In round 10 against North Adelaide he kicked 8 goals from full forward and he was a multiple goal kicker on 7 occasions. He was also rewarded for late season form with 3 reserves games in which he managed 4 goals.

Nick will be a longer term project for the football club as he continues his development journey to improve his game sense and to add further muscle to his frame. The club has seen great improvement in many areas of Nick’s game from the beginning of the 2009 season and it will provide a great learning environment for Nick to continue this progression.

Nick Westhoff in his own words:

What type of player are you?
A quick-moving forward with strong marking skills and good athleticism.

Which AFL player do you most resemble and why?
Matthew Lloyd, because he was an explosive leading forward with strong marking abilities.

What are your strengths as a footballer?
Second efforts and chases, overhead marking, good pace off the mark and on the lead, accurate kick in front of goal.

What parts of your game would you like to improve?
My left-hand side kicking and hand skills.

Which AFL team do you support and how did you come to barrack for them?
As a junior I followed Essendon because my father followed them.  I switched to the Crows when they joined the AFL.

Who has been the biggest influence on your career so far and why?
West Adelaide coaching staff and my father because of constant positive influence and feedback.

An article on Westhoff from May earlier this year...

Another Westhoff on the way
May 11, 2009

A THIRD Westhoff might be in line for the AFL with 18-year-old Nick making his mark at West Adelaide.

The strong full forward, who turned 18 today, kicked five goals in West Adelaide’s 10-goal win - ironically over Central District on Saturday.

Nick Westhoff is the cousin of Justin and Matthew who rose through Central District’s ranks to reach Port Adelaide Power’s AFL list.

``He is a dead-set twin,’’ Bloods football operations manager Scott Turner said.

``He’s a bit more like Matthew than Justin, but he’s got the same shaggy haircut.

``And he’s 198cm - just really, really similar.’’

Nick was a Goodwood Saints junior and joined West Adelaide through their recruiting zone.

According to Turner, he also spent time playing basketball in the United States.

``He’s played more basketball than footy,’’ Turner said.

``But we certainly hope he does (play senior football), he’s a really athletic kid but because he’s only new to the game we’re taking it slow with him.’’

``Nick Westhoff played his best game for the club ...’’

Bloods’ rookie raid
15 Dec 09 @ 12:33pm by Jai Bednall

Westhoff, the cousin of the Power’s Matthew and Justin, faced a nervous wait before finding out he was heading to the Tigers.

``The internet was down at our place so I couldn’t follow the draft,’’ he said.

``Then my phone rang and it was a number I didn’t recognise.

``It was Richmond letting me know they’d picked me, I was just floored.’’

They key forward, who played under-18s and Reserves with the Bloods this season, boards a flight for Melbourne at 3.40pm today and said he can’t wait to start training.
