December 24, 2009The AFL have further beefed up their investigation powers, introducing several new provisions to the player rules and regulations.
Under the changes, the AFL can stand down anyone from the league and access club premises while conducting an investigation.
"It was the AFL's view that our rules and regulations needed to be further enhanced to ensure the AFL is placed to protect the integrity of the competition into the future, and these changes were approved by the commission last week," said AFL operations manager Adrian Anderson.
"Without sufficient powers, a sporting administration's ability to investigate rule breaches is limited and therefore the rules are not effective."
The league can also require documents and records under the new powers.
They have expanded the categories of offences under their rules and regulations to include scenarios such as providing false and misleading evidence, obstructing an AFL official and failure to cooperate with an investigation.
