Going by the photos it looks like I and the people around me mixed up Westhoff for Griffiths  :wallywink. Griffiths was at the ground as I saw him in the half-time huddle with the forwards group wearing a RFC tracksuit.

Tallying up the final scores

Richmond   6.4    7.7   14.14   16.16     23.19-157

Coburg       0.2    1.3     1.3      2.4         2.4-16

Goals: Hislop 3, Polo 3, Thomson 2, Morton 2, Astbury 2, King, Polak, Cousins, Collins, Westhoff, McMahon, Tuck, Graham, Browne

.... missing two - maybe another to Kingy and Contin (I thought he was a Coburg player initially)
Other reports I've seen have credited Morton with at least 4 goals

Hi MT,

Sorry to hear you got caught on the Western ring carpark and missed the start.
For future reference, a better alternative route is to go up either Nicholson or Lygon street to Coburg, past the old gaol, and get onto the Hume Freeway via Bell Street. This way worked a treat for us yesterday, and despite getting in a bit of a peak hour jam through Coburg, we got to the oval ten minutes before the first bounce.

Did Doc Martin play with the rest of the newbies in the 4th and 5th quarters or did he have more of a hit out? How did he go?
Nah just the first 2.5 quarters with the "best" 22. Actually suffered cramp and his legs went from underneath him and he was in the trainers arms for a couple of minutes. Thank god it wasn't an injury. I asked one of the trainers and Martin is fine.

Style of footy? With all due respect to Coburg and the final score was it direct or was it a higher possession type of game?
Yes it was direct and fairly basic Tucky and there was clear purpose today to switch to the fat side when coming out of defence which was pleasing to see. The problem with today though was Coburg were pretty ordinary which shouldn't be a suprise given they are a bottom 4 VFL side. They were making basic skill errors especially by foot a fair bit in defence which allowed us easy scores while our mistakes weren't punished at all as there was minimal pressure. Our intensity and tackling was far greater than Coburg's and we had far greater leg speed which meant we won most 50/50 loose balls simply because a Richmond player could get to it first. Next week in Tassie will be the first reality test for us and our new gameplan.

Edit: I forgot to add that one thing that stood out was the lack of panic handgrenade handballs. Hardly saw a backwards handpass to a flatfooted teammate under the pump. Also there was more first option kicking the ball forward from centre bounces rather than always handballing as first option.

Furthermore how did the skills look overall and by your perception at the same time in previous season are they better do they look crisper? Do the players look more conditioned and fit or has the weights session masked fitness in terms of extra size as som mentioned Polo has bulked up? Who else looks more bulky by the way?
Skills are still same old same old. At times very good but then disposal and decision making deteriorates and makes the whole crowd go WTF! The breeze especially into it made longer footpassing very difficult so it wasn't conditions for prestine footy. Apparently Craigieburn is well known for being windy. We will be a bottom 3 side this year even given some promising young newbies. We are too young and inexperienced.

Polo, Connors and Jack look bigger across the chest. Martin is a ready-made man-mountain for a midfielder. Edwards seems wider across the shoulders but he is still small because he was just a stick to begin with. I wouldn't say too many others look any bigger in size though.

Very informative as always MT. Thanks a million. :cheers

Tigers unscathed after hitout
richmondfc.com.au
Sat 06 February, 2010

Richmond players emerged unscathed from a practice match at Craigieburn’s Highgate Reserve yesterday.

The Tigers had their biggest hitout of the pre season, against VFL affiliate Coburg, in front of a large contingent of fans.

The match gave the coaching staff a chance to see the club’s newest draftees in action before next week’s opening round NAB Cup encounter with Hawthorn in Tasmania (February 13).

Players were used on a rotational basis in a five-period match, and almost the entire squad participated, with Troy Simmonds, Nathan Foley and Daniel Jackson among those not to take the field.

It probably that Nahas kicked 1 goal, and King kicked 2 goals rather than 1.

Cheers Rhett.

They might have confused Morton with Thomson. Mitch only got a couple of crumbing goals 15m out and he hardly got a touch in the first half.

Thank's MT! I've obviously missed some news along the journey - where was McGuane?

Injured. Not exactly sure what's wrong with him (ankle?) but he's been in the rehab group at training.
