pretty certain Dea was a target.just not sure weather we wanted him at pick 44.
people i trust say we were very keen on him. in fact wasnt there an article about jackson going crook because he got u 18 games late in the season and went alright. i believe we had a player pencilled in at 44 but got wind brisbane were takeing Dea at 47 and the rest is history.
clearly martin was a target as was griffiths who trained with us. i know jackson liked tapscott a lot so did a lot of people. thing is if tapscott was there at 19 it means we were prepared to miss on griffiths.
personally i rated 3 mids in front of griffiths and both talls carlisle and black. but i have had to admit i havent seen a lot of any of the kids this yr and my opinion is not informed.
im a bit wary on us looking after needs after our first 3 picks as well. should have taken another couple of talls a ruckman and another kpp would have done.
claw you are right on most points, but I know for a fact that jackson would of taken griffiths ahead of tapscott if they were both available. The tiger medicos sat in on griffiths surgery, before the draft .
The player they wanted at 44 was the young kid the buldogs snared at 15, the bolter, forget his name.
Sheesh i know a few people who would have been jumping if we took Griffiths over Tapscott.Including me.
As it was i wanted Bastinac at 19. Even though ive been screaming for us to take talls. i think damien wrong when he says we took best available with our first 3 picks especially with Griffiths.
The bulldogs player you mention was Howard. There was a few who were not surprised with his selection at 15. Must admit i wasnt one of them.
If Big Ben turns into Tony Lockett the 2nd comming will you will be jumping ?
You cannot whinge on one hand we have sod all KPP youth on the list and then say u did not want Griffs
why the hell not.
from a personal point why would i take griffiths at pick 19 who i have doubts about. and not one of three mids who i think potential A graders. plus i rated both carlisle and black better tall options.
in the nd i would have went: 3 moraboto, i went mora because id seen a bit of him it was a toss up between him and martin. more than happy with martin
.bastinac because i thought him a potential A grader and best available. not as if we loaded up with genuine mids or we dont need em either.
35 houghton a tall from over here who i had seen a bit of. i also had astbury in a group of 3 talls here. happy to get astbury a bit like i was happy to get martin.
44 shaw a skinny running tall plays h/b and wing who in time could play kp imo.a true athlete with really good pace for his height exceptional in fact. smarts and skills are okay as well. he was one of the three i had at 35.
51 taylor easily the most talented player available at 51. worth taking the obvious risk associated with him at this pick.
67 grimes we took him psd i would have taken him here.was very tempted to nominate duryea here.
71 hmm will have to go look it up.hartigan i think another tall. dont think he got drafted at all.
psd 2 bradshaw.yep a 30 yr old. why mainly for his quality and experience,(what other real reasons do we need) and the fact we dont have didnt have a genuine ff.
in taking griffiths i reckon its even more important we took someone like bradshaw. a bit like cousins with the mids, well bradshaw is the same but with the forwards. i only came to this conclusion after richo retired as richo was the experienced kpf we needed.
as you can see it was very easy to ignore griffiths at 19 and still cater to tall needs. im pretty convinced this nearly happened with tapscott getting to pick 18. if he lasted one more pick i reckon we would have taken him.
and let me say im pleased we took griffiths or a tall at 19. one can see where they have come from and fully understand the reasoning, it could well be they rated griffiths best available at 19.
personally i dont think we took the best tall available or for that matter the best available here.im pretty sure bastinac will be a very good player i cant say that about griffiths.
to finish i really think both webberley and nason were so far under the radar we could have picked them both up in the rookie draft. by the way my first rookie preference was majak daw another tall.
anyway its all done and dusted the proof will be in the pudding, i have everything crossed in hoping they got the griffiths pick right because they over looked some real talent to take him.
