Leppitsch on 3AW @ 7.15pm
« on: February 18, 2010, 07:29:19 PM »
Leppa was on 3aw just now....

* He was a bit cautious coming back to Melbourne but really loving it and being around family. Realised how much he had missed. Camberwell boy but going to move down to the Mornington Peninsula closer to family and commute to work.

* Damien took on the role knowing the worst was to come first (re: getting flogged by Hawthorn). No excuses you still try to win. Pressure was good in the first 15 mintues but we gave away silly free kicks.
Lots of positives though. Saw the gameplan start to come together in the last quarter. If we had been smashed in all 4 quarters it would've left us a bit dispondent but the last quarter left us with some positives to work with.

* Hasn't see any negativity at the club despite hearing stories of last year. We're a club transforming with a young list, new players and new facilites. System only allows you to draft your way to a premiership. He doesn't think we are as far back as Melbourne was. Damien has made parallels to Hawthorn although they had a couple of handy recruits. The Hawks had a pretty good young core when Damien arrived there. We're putting together a faily good young midfield core but the bookends are still raw.

* A CHB needs the ability to read the play and the agility to play there. Thinks Post can play CHB and we played him there Saturday night as Thursty and McGuane didn't play.

* Can't say which players will be there in 5 years time. What's Astbury as a first year player going to be? What's Jack going to end up like? List management looking at 2-3 players in every position.

* Not being too inconvenienced at Punt Rd with the redevelopment going on. We've also been using the fantastic facility at Craigieburn.

* Spent 30 minutes today talking about the new Punt Rd facility. It will be state of art similar to Carlton's.

* Club has done well with Troy Taylor. He was drafted with us knowing conditions came along with that. We're still committed to helping and supporting Troy and get him through the process and have him end up playing good footy for us.

for me this is the most relevant comment of all. it shows some one at least understands list management at the club. hopefully its an indication that the majority now understand what basic list management is about.

in other words hes saying for instance  chf. both astbury and riewoldt give us two chfs  and hes asking what is the likely hood of these boys succeeding. its one thing have ing the two or three in numbers you need. its entirely different if they dont have the quality.

you can have 10 chfs on the list  but if none are no good  or expected to be no good  you effectively have none.
list management is not just about numbers and quality its also probably more importantly about projecting forward.

Yep.  And not stopping when you have a good 'one' in any single position because if that 'one' goes down you need to make sure 'two' can step up and not affect the team's output.

True and the bit in bold is where we were with Schulz, Cleve and Patto. We recruited hardly any talls under Spud and the few we did under Plough in his first couple of drafts who should've been the basis of our spine now were flops.
