1st quarter

down-field free kick against Martin saw the ball end up with Hille 40m from goal. His shot went wide for the first point of the game. A minute later Zaharakis marked 15m out and booted the first goal of the game. Both sides were scrappy for the next five minutes before a holding he ball decision against Reimers near goal gave Richmond a sniff but their shot hit the post. A Monfries kick into the Bombers' 50m saw Ryder leap, the ball came to ground and it was a race between Williams and Davey to crumb the goal with the Hawthorn recruit getting the spoils. Davey was busy soon again driving the ball into the forward 50 where Gumbleton handballed to Neagle who snapped a nice goal from 30m out. The Bombers' defence was standing tall with Hardingham again having some nice touches and Pears and Hooker working well before Vickery marked 50m out but kicked a point. A poor kick by Prismall across the Bombers' 50m arch saw the ball moved forward quickly by the Tigers to Roberts who was along and ran and drilled through a goal from 45m out. The lead was back to 12 points a minute later after Gumbleton took a strong contested mark 45m out on an angle and kicked his first goal. A free kick to Monfries 35m out and on an angle resulted in the next Essendon goal as the Bombers took control through the midfield and started to take over the game. Some nice work on the half forward line from Ryder then Williams saw the ball again end with Davey who missed a relatively simple chance on the run from a tight angle when he should have handballed to Monfries in the goal square.

Thought we'd be at least competitive today. So disappointing. Sounds as though we're getting pumped in the midfield (apart from Lids) and can't get the ball forward. No talls standing up. Only a rare few giving a stuff.

From WP:

"Nason, Lids, Farmer all good. Rest forget. No intensity. Skills dropped away. Heads dropped when things turned 2 crap."

At least pick 4 is looking good.

No intensity and heads dropping is what ticks you off the most. I know it's only a practice match and the result means stuff all but it's not good going into round 1 on the back of a flogging.

Good to see Nason is playing well and he is over his knee brusing.

RFC blog - Richmond's best players in the first half were Nason and Roberts.

Some nice work on the wing by Gumbleton got the ball going Essendon's way in the third and an excellent left foot opportunist snap by Monfries was a fitting result. The Tigers put pressure on the Bomber defence and hit back with a Hislop goal.
