Benny Gale on 3aw @ 6.25pm
« on: March 11, 2010, 06:37:57 PM »
Benny was just on 3aw...

* Latest on Cuz is he's had abdominal pain. Been put in hospital overnight as a precaution. Mainly staying overnight because he has to fast for further tests tomorrow.

* Gale hasn't looked into the biting allegation. Players get hit or scratched so didn't bother looking into it. Gale believes said he doesn't believe it happened. Not sure where the rumour came from. Gale said these days players have an obligation to tell the truth about what happens on the field. Cloke's written complaint will be the only evidence used at the tribunal hearing. As far as the biting he said Gerard your guess is as good as mind.

* The plan is ambitious and we know we are nowhere near the period of success we're aiming for. The club has been a failure for 25 years. No premierships. Need to build our commerical strength and football program. Plan based around three things - 3 finals, good financials and connecting more with our members.

* For our own internal counting we have to include both ticketed and non-ticketed memberships. Last year we had 46k in total. Membership in the comp. grows at 8% per year so we believe 75k is achievable.

* Repeated this plan has been 4-5 months work. 100s tasks, timelines and goals set for individuals to achieve. That's the accountability. That's the rigor involved. It's about our culture and our people to get there.

* Kingy we know is not blessed with a stack of natural ability but you admire his determination and always giving a crack. You've got to admire it.

Not saying Kingy didn't hit Cloke (who knows?) but surely this case will be thrown out if all the tribunal has to base evidence on is Cloke's word against Kingy's. Cloke would need to include witnesses in his written submission for the charge to be sustained surely  ???.

It would be interesting to know more about the nitty gritty of the details. Easier to sell the long-term aims of the plan to supporters with more substance behind it.

from today's Herald-Sun....

Gale also told 3AW Radio the club did not believe youngster Dylan Grimes had been bitten by a Collingwood player in last Friday's game.

Richmond's Jake King will contest a striking charge after Magpie Travis Cloke told umpires he had been hit, but Gale said there was no evidence Grimes had been bitten.

"That would be my understanding," he said.

"As for dobbing, this players' code is a crock. It is redundant. In this day and age if something happens on the field the player has a responsibility to give a true and accurate account of what happened."

Richmond really can't afford for this to not go well. If we end up five years down the track in same position as we are now, the viability of this club will surely be questioned.

I think the next 5 years will be perhaps the most important in the clubs history.

Hope Mr. Gale recognises that.

I thought Wallet's third year was the most important year in our history.
Then I thought last year was our most important.
However I do agree CV this principle over the next five years is most important to the club as older supporters move on and those in the 35 -40 age group or thereabouts will spend their money and time elsewhere and kids who love the game and could support the club end up either through a family member or success will fail to do so due to that lack of success.

Moral to this story is as a Richmond fan we have all been let down before and actions speak louder than words.

actions speak louder than words.

Every club supporter would be echoing those thoughts after what we have heard this week.
