And we could justify McMahon being on the list by making him a cheerleader too!

Actually Carlton were the first to do it before then with the "Bluebirds" - they lasted a season or 2.  We followed suit very soon after with the "Tigerettes" but they only lasted a few games from memory.  Sydney followed both of them.

Edit:  dug around for a bit more info.

The Blue Birds were a cheerleading/dance troupe and a Carlton institution in the 1970s and 1980s, entertaining young and old alike on matchdays. You can be sure that the subject of the Blue Birds will invariably be brought up by any group of Carlton fans reminiscing about the good times of a couple of decades ago.

But let’s not forget one of football’s short-lived but most intense rivalries – the Eighties showdown between the Bluebirds and the Tigerettes.

Carlton was the first to introduce a squad of dancing, beautiful girls to match day festivities in 1980. Called the Bluebirds, they were most notable for their high-cut costumes that let plenty of fresh winter air land on their, um, cheeks.

Richmond, on its way to the 1980 premiership, wasn’t about to let one of its main inner-city rivals steal a march when it came to glamour. A promotions company was hired and rehearsed dozens of dancers.
