Richmond Football Club president, Clinton Casey, today announced the appointment of Rob Dalton to fill a casual vacancy on the Club’s Board of Directors.

Dalton, a qualified chartered accountant, is a senior audit and business advisory partner with big international accounting firm Ernst & Young.

In his capacity as an RFC Board member, he will fill the role as Chairman of the Club’s Audit and Risk committee.

“Rob is a passionate, life-long supporter of the Richmond Football Club. His passion for the Tigers, combined with his financial and corporate governance expertise, will add significant strength to the Club,” Casey said.

“He brings tremendous experience in relation to corporate decision-making and will greatly assist the Club in the vast area of financial matters that it deals with on a daily basis.

“We’ve already benefited from his expertise as he’s spent the past couple of months working closely with our new CEO, Steven Wright, to develop new governance processes, systems and structures that will ensure our business practices are in line with those adopted by major Australian corporations.”

Dalton had no hesitation in accepting the invitation to join the Tigers’ Board.

“It’s a great honor to be asked and I’m really looking forward to helping the Club put in place processes that will properly manage the risks and exposures in our business,” he said.

“AFL clubs are so impacted by on-field performance, it is critical to have a process of identifying any variances to our strategic business plan and be able to identify those issues early enough to take corrective action.”

Dalton has worked on key audit engagements for large Australian and global corporations and also has been involved in some major advisory roles, including the acting finance director for the Administrator on Ansett Airlines.

He was head of Audit and Business Advisory in Melbourne from 1996-2004, and is currently head of the Entrepreneurial Growth Markets Practice.

In addition, Dalton has been involved with the Victorian College of the Arts for several years and he’s currently Chairman of their Audit and Risk committee.

As with all other Richmond Board members, Rob Dalton has offered himself for re-election at the Club’s Annual General Meeting in December.
