Unsociable Football
« on: April 07, 2010, 05:27:05 PM »
Would like to see some from the Tigers.
If we're going to play King, Jackson and Hislop along with McGuane, Thomson, Farmer and Simmonds (just jokes) I'd like to see a bit of rough n tumble.

Even when the Hawks were getting smashed a few years ago, they had a physicality that made the opposition know they'd played a game. Reckon the Blues and Bulldogs had more physical training sessions than what we dished up in the past few weeks.
And don't give me that crap about being too skinny, go hard Tigers and if we don't get a few reports over the next month then we ain't pushing the boundaries like we saw the Hawks and Cats do on Monday.

Time to introduce unsociable footy to Tigerland dimma.

surely Hardwick will try and get this happening  :)  but when Kingy was doing this he got condemned (collingwood game) I would say it was the best thing to see the pies get beat up by a guy half there size

"Unsociable Football" is ridiculous, wanting our players to be reported is also ridiculous. We are a team that is trying to gain respect, not further ruin our already damaged reputation. With the amount of rule changes introduced over the last 5 years in our game, playing "unsociable football" would result in the RFC looking like complete fools. Yes worse than we look now.

All our players need to do is play uncomprimised football, ala Connors last weekend, that is how we will win games and gain respect in doing so.

"Unsociable football"....pfft!!

Disagree.

Yes it worked well last year against the Pies when King and Hislop made us look like a complete rabble of a football club when they tried to punch their way to victory.

I dont mind players being pyhsical as long as you can back it up on the scoreboard and that game against the Pies was an embarrasment to our club. Believe me they(Pies) were the ones laughing all the way to the bank while we were left licking our wounds after another loss.

Not sure if you watched the Cats vs Hawks game but that game should be what our team aspires to replicate into the future (last 3 premiers).
They push the boundaries of being physical which sometimes results in reports. They are not dirty snipers - where did I reference the Pies game?
So pushing the boundaries and being physical and developing an intimidating edge to your game - not sniping are the themes that made unsociable football an important partif the Hawks premiership year.
And our coach was there so he should be able to "teach" our players the difference.

These are your words aren't they??

"go hard Tigers and if we don't get a few reports over the next month then we ain't pushing the boundaries"

That is not pushing the boundry's that is breaking the rules, we do not need reports to show we are progressing. We also do not need to "get a few reports" to play good hard football.

I do not agree with the heading of your post or it's reference to having our players reported to prove they are tough.

These are my thoughts only towards your posts and thread.

Dead right that is exactly how they need to play, not unsociabley though resulting in reports, we can not afford to lose players through stupid tackles that some interpret as going hard.

Against the Blues we were all in the push and shove, every player getting stuck in, no Joel Bowden wimping out, then we got smashed on the scoreboard.

A push and shove in the middle of a game is not the same as hard tackles, strong legal bumps and strong marking contests. If you do those things all game it makes it that much harder for the opposition to run through you and score all day long.

At the moment, most opposition players consider running straight through most of our guys instead of running around them because they're not concerned that a solid bump or heavy tackle might be coming - we are brushed off to easily and I think showing a bit of hardness within the boundaries of the games laws would be a good thing for a young side to make a habit of.

Just remember that pushing the boundaries doesn't always mean it's legal. That is not to say you deliberately break the laws of the game.
We need to learn how to play hard, tackling, bumping, blocking and sheparding. It needs to be hard and uncompromising which may result in reports - not necessarily suspensions.
Making mistakes is part of the learning process.

I agree on both sides.

The Pies melee was good to see some old fashion biff but when your 90 points to 10 its a bit embarrassing.

Do it when it has meaning, make the opposition earn every mark they take. If a player puts there head over the footy make him think twice of doing it again. I wouldn't have had a problem if Kingy ironed out a Cooney in the 1st qtr and got 3 weeks for it. We can't just gift 4 points and an easy jog around every week. Throw some weight around for mine, but don't do it when your 80 points down in the 2nd qtr..
Go Tigers!

Exactly shouldn't be doing it now. We'll get flogged every week.

Need to write a list and when we start winning pay out big time. I thought the Brissie Lions were better in your face and at the unsociable footy also. It was a psychological intimidation and degradation. Get into the minds of your opponents put fear into them and then ensure they stay down.

This cannot happen if they do not have pride. Without pride in their performance there is nothing.
