Improving goalkicking and kicking in general
« on: April 09, 2010, 08:04:29 PM »
BT said tonight on 3aw that when he was goalkicking coach at Richmond and Collingwood he was just refused time to have the players practice their goalkicking. There's too much emphasis on sports science at the expense of such a fundamental skill. Trainers don't like the players doing say 100 repetitions of kicking at goal as it puts extra strain on the quads.

They also brought up to the topic of general kicking. I think it was BT who said it's too late to correct at even TAC Cup level. The ages of 9-15 are the crucial years for improving how to kick and so there's a lot of pressure on junior coaches working at those age levels. If a flaw in technique isn't picked up then it will carry through.
