I love all the theories about exactly what went on. Some of you make it sound like Cuz sat in an armchair watching Connors write himself off for hours, like Connors was Nicolas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas and Cuz was Elizabeth Shue. Who knows what went on or if Cuz and the other two were there 100% of the time.

Although 2 didnt turn up for rehab as they didnt get to sleep till after 4am.
And Cuz hit Connors, which aint good, a fine would of been more appropreaite.
As its the supporters as well  that have to sit there and suffer on Sunday. we have suffered long enough

Have to disagree FNM.  They did not do the teammate thing - they were either ignorant or lazy (or both) in letting their teammate get to that position in the first place.  It's symptomatic of our on-field actions and until this group of players learns the real meaning of team and mate then we can't hope to improve.

Yeah, the club does have a duty of care but in this scenario (now or in the future) the responsibility or culpability will always rest on those that were present at the time.  Without any inside knowledge of what really happened except what we have all read and heard, it would appear that Cousins, Polo and McGuane were present with Connors for a greater part of the period and accordingly should have acted like teammates - in their mate's best interests.  It should not be management's responsibility to bed check grown men and in this case it would appear that much of the 'damage' was done once they were back in their rooms anyway.  It should however, be not only the responsibility but the first and overriding reflex action of each and every player to look out for his teammate's back whenever they are around each other, on and off the field, and in this all 3 failed Connors - indeed, Richmond teams for 30 years have failed in this basic tenet of the team concept.  The fact it has happened and the club has not only acknowledged the failing but acted swiftly and decisively gives me great heart and confidence that the Hardwick intent and direction is fair dinkum.

Completly agree Smoke.

Your in the public eye, you represent a very popular football club that is big news when ever anything happens. They would have been aware of this, the first indictaion that Connors was over .05 for example should have clicked a light bulb on in one of there heads saying "poo. Anything could happen if Daniel keeps drinking. Lets whind it up."

It's not liike it's Round 20 and they've been sover for 5 months. It's Round 3 ffs. Have some self control, have 1 or 2 and go to bed.

also what ben did is called sticking by a mate and keeping him safe.  it's called being a good mate and teammate.

Disagree Peggles.  Ben did not stick by his teammate and keep him safe - he let him get to a state where he was out of control - a mate who has a history of getting out of control.  He watched and waited until it was way too late - that's not the mateship that is going to turn this club around.  Connors needed a mate to rein him in before midnight, while he was still capable of listening to reason and had a measure of self control - thats what a real teammate would have done.  And that's why the 3 amigos got 1 week.

fair enough.  althought i think u've missed my point.  all i'm saying is regardless of whether connors was allowed to drink himself out of control, terry is suggesting ben get himself out of there when things have escalated just so he won't get himself in trouble that is selfish and cowardly.  if connors was allowed to drink out of control, then more the point the other 3 stay with him to prevent him from hurting himself.

No doubt, and he'll probably go on and become a good player elsewhere

If they had have got him help in the first place and done their duty, he might have changed his behaviour somewhat.
