If that is true and I highly doubt it (touch wood) Deledio is probably on his way to the Gold Coast at seasons end.

Lids' birthday today. Obviously if this true the captaincy isn't a birthday present.

Why Cotch got the nod as captain

The football world shouldn’t read too much into Trent Cotchin taking over the Richmond captaincy for last Sunday’s clash with Melbourne, in the absence of injured skipper Chris Newman.

Cotchin’s elevation to the role for the day, ahead of Brett Deledio, surprised many Tiger fans and critics alike, prompting speculation that he was the “heir-apparent” to Newman.

But Richmond coach, Damien Hardwick, has set the record straight on the decision to ask the 20-year old, with less than 30 league games’ experience, to fill in for Newman as captain last Sunday.

“With Chris Newman’s absence last weekend, we put it to the leadership group (Newman, Deledio, Cotchin, Daniel Jackson, Nathan Foley and Troy Simmonds) to decide who they thought should have the opportunity to captain the Club,” he said.

“Given the fact Brett Deledio had done the job before (Round 22 last year), they wanted to give Trent Cotchin a chance.

“For Trent’s personal development as a player, it was an outstanding opportunity - too good to be passed up.

“There’s so much more to captaincy these days than just tossing the coin.  The captain takes responsibility on-field for the whole team.  And, from that point of view, I thought Trent was terrific last Sunday.

“From a playing perspective, his first half was very good.  It was probably his best half for the year and he’s only going to get better, with the overall leadership experience he gained, too.”

Cotchin performed equal to Newmans captaincy and beyond in his first match.
In fact,we didn't even miss Newman from a leadership perspective - goes to prove the zero essence of leadership chris has.
Did we even miss his performance and input as a player ?
Unlikely.

Point two.
Delediot has peaked,is content with his"public profile" (or at least the one that exists in his own head and will never captain the team.
Not only because he doesn't deserve it but because he is flat out putting in lack lustre performances week in,week out.

Cotchin,to anyone with an inkling of knowledge and wisdom will eventually Captain the club.

Newman is alright coming off half-back.  Keep him as a player but strip him of his captaincy.

I disagree, we have enough kids who can be developed at half back. Newman would also have good (or at least decent) trade value.
If you're going to strip him of the captaincy then there is no use keeping him
