The move
« on: April 20, 2010, 09:39:16 AM »
I have mentioned constantly on here about how players play to their full potential when in better teams.
? is how do we become that team!
Look we may get there with the new crop but a couple of guys need to stand up Martin may be one, but you look at someone like lids for example, he needs someone to inspire him, he wont do the inspiration stuff by himself.

What I am getting at is this, I was listening to SEN last night and Pikey just scoffed at Newman as captain and said he wouldn't even get a game at the top 4 clubs and also went on with such things as Deledio having won 2 B&F's 'that sums Richmond up' - lol
Also made mention of how the hell can we be paying the same as a team like Geelong in the salary cap.
So do we at years end get some big names $$ earners ala Newman, McMahon(no brainer), and put them up for trade for whatever picks they will fetch. Give some of the lesser lights what they deserve, I don't know the figures but there is no way they should be earning what their equivalents get, at say Geelong / StKilda / Coll hawthorn etc   If they get the poos so be it - probably not worth it anyway.
Then with the spare cash go real hard at say a Hodge/Ablett/Bartell and/or a Gilbert/Fisher for example you know a couple of KPP that will inspire and lift the team around them, how long has J Brown got left in the game?
Just really think if we got this into the side it would fast track the kids that have the potential and may even make careers out of some that will move on and become the players they should be elsewhere.
We need a bit of that old Tiger ruthlessness not just to gain some big names but to also show who we already have that this is the place to be going forward.

1. We're not
2. We're forced to pay 92.5% of what they're spending

Should have gotten rid of Newman Jackson and afew others last year, Richmond never knows when to trade out, we hang onto average players and then they have no value to other teams.

add foley to that, we could have cashed in on him when he made the vic team

we missed out there , his market value now is crap, but then we could have bluffed teams and cashed in

1. Foley is young enough to still be part of a successful Richmond team, Newman isn't
2. Wait until Foley is back AFL match fit and recovered from his ankle, he was playing injured for all of 2009 needing injections before each match.

All players miss targets
When he had his break out year Foley's disposal effeciency was perfectly fine for an inside midfielder

A fit Foley in our side is one of the most important players we have IMO, he releaves the pressure on players like Lids.

“We are really excited about what we have brought in. We have got great depth of players that can take us where we need to go. We are just putting some cream on the top at the moment,” he said.
