VFL, SANFL, WAFL, ... Players watch:
« on: April 20, 2010, 04:57:19 PM »
Fremantle have injected 2 seasoned VFL players in Barlow and Silvagni who are not only domainting SuperCoach and Dream Team but are catalysts for Freo's success this year.

The only way we can fast track our club to be competetive is weed out teh player sthat have failed to make the grade who are too old and can't follow the game plan.

With atleasy 8 going you'd expect possibly 10-12 even we must look to the VFL/SANFL/WAFL etc. Myles Sewell type players.

If we can start getting a thread togeter to watch some VFL players that could get drafted next year we can get a good idea of our options.

Fire away...

What is the age group you are looking at please PL, because last year when a couple of us were crying out for a couple of experienced players such as Seaby etc... to come into the side we were shot down..

About 90% of people wanted untried youth to completely rebuild the club, now that a couple of older players have shown a bit are we now supporting getting a few experienced players in??????

People on this forum did not want to look at anyone over the age of 22 so what now??? Just asking thats all.

good point WA.  I reckon we just have to sit the next couple of years out and see what happens.  No good getting older players, it's gotta be kids, kids and more kids.

Thats right we have laid the foundations now lets stick to them. I think it's a good topic to bring up though because lets see how many turncoats there are. Seriously we can't entertain the thought of changing our recruitment track based on the selection of 2 players and their current form this year.

To do that would be considered hypercritical IMO. STICK FAT FFS.

There is no doubt there are good  vfl players out there but if they dont fit the youth criteria i dont see why we should bother with them.  we will turn over more players at the end of this year and bring in maybe 8-10 more kids and thats hows it gonna be

We're already recruiting older WAFL/SANFL and VFL players.

Jeremy Webberley and Ben Nason anybody.

We'll probably balance it out again this year.

So if we say delist 8, maybe a 6 TAC and 2 older or 5 TAC and 3 older players mix.

There's at least 2 or 3 boys down at Coburg for that very reason.

Yes but they are not over 26 years of age are they.

Yes but they are not over 26 years of age are they.

Neither are Barlow or Silvagni.
Webberley    12/7/88      182cm   75kg
Barlow         18/12/87     191cm   92kg
Silvagni        29/9/87      191cm   90kg

Barlow and Silvagni have not needed time to adjust since they come from a high level competition, the same one where all AFL clubs develop their players.

I don't think anyone is seriously suggesting a Podsiadly for Richmond but a Barlow in our midfield now would mean we could protect Martin and Cotchin a little bit. Webberley however will require some time for development and will never reach their size.

Thats fair enough but what are the chances of two players like that coming up in the draft, Podsiadly was mentioned by some, hence my questions. Really Barlow is the standout and everyone is getting carried away with him. I don't think our recruiters need to stuff this years draft up, the AFL has alraedy done that for us. Sure search the hell out of the comp but don't take players that are too old or that have been overlooked many times by other clubs, now that narrows it down!!

Thanks RedenTiger.

I didn't think it was that difficult.

Players like Barlow, Silvagni, Nason all good pick ups and future players that don't require the club trading, top 10 draft picks, TAC future predictions etc. Just watch the VFL, SANFL etc. and see if there are any young 20's floating around that would benefit our list. We wont have multiple top 10 draft picks for 4-5 years and if we are wooden spooners 4 years running we wont have a single number 1 draft pick to help.

We can do our own recruiting on OER. Wouldn't want anyone over the age of 24 in 2011 (Deledio's Age in 2011)

Have a look at the VFL/SANFL and WAFL over the next few weeks and if you like something post it.

I guess it would have been difficult to cut sylvestor and then recruit silvagni...I prefer the upside in Goo TBH...silvagni look to be a a bit slow

Disagree, there are always new late bloomers coming through each year from all state leagues.
Bradd Dalziel was another one from the WAFL

Zac Ledin is one worth following.  Played last season as an over age player for the Falcons.  Got mentioned a lot, even as high as top ten.  Didn't get a gig.

Playing Box Hill ressies now.

Plenty of others like him too.
